ATP College Requirement

I don't think this is true. I know a gentlemen who 90-day'd it in Phoenix, who started 2 days after his high-school graduation. He is now an 18 year old MEI who ATP won't even hire. And an ATP Chicago instructor I have an acquaintance with doesn't have on either. I don't think ATP is strict on that requirement.

But that could only be two special cases.

ATP will allow students who don't have the college requirement into the program. Jim will talk to them for a while to get a feel for what their future goals are and how they plan on achieving them. He's looking for motivated students who have a clear picture of what they want and how they want to achieve it. As you all know ATPs program uses a self-study method and 2 years of college is an indicator that you were able to hack it on your own..etc

As an employer who doesn't guarantee(minus the Direct Track

) employment to their students, they have the right to hire who they want. Believe me, just like in any other program there are some students who you wouldn't want flying with you. ATP is just as likely to hire a high school grad as they are a college grad.

My partner going through the program was only 18 with no college. He was offered a job about a week after the program was done, took it, hung out in Jax for a few weeks and now heads up the Houston office. I wouldn't be surprised if he is at ExpressJet by the end of summer the way he is going.

I'm currently in the CFI portion of the ACPP at ATP and haven't graduated high school yet

. I think atp has trouble turning down 40K...degree, diploma, or not..

I wish him luck, but I don't know anyone here at XJT without a college degree. Especially among new hires.

Yeah... I left ATP as a 18 y/o MEII.... they didn't hire, but it's all good, I managed to get a great CFI job after some college......

Oh, and I know of several XJT pilots w/o a degree.... the regionals dont care much for them, they just want a good pilot with the experience (ATP multi time being part of that good experience).....

So yeah... the 2 years is pretty much there just to make them look professional.... like someone said... I dont think they'll turn down 30-40k!..... speaking of which... the price is sky rocketing... I went there in 2003 and it was like 31K... now its up around 38K!!

Anyway.... ATP ROCKS!

Im 19 and nearly done with the ACPP. Like greezergriff7 said, i dont think ATP is going to turn down 40k just because your not 2 years out of high school, however it might be harder to get on with regional w/out a degree.
