ATP Certificate Requirement Questions

Hello All!!

I have a question about the ATP Requirements with reference to PIC time. I'm Looking at FAR Part 61.159(4)(i)(ii);
4) 250 hours of flight time in an airplane as a pilot in command, or as second in command performing the duties of pilot in command while under the supervision of a pilot in command, or any combination thereof, which includes at least--
(i) 100 hours of cross-country flight time; and
(ii) 25 hours of night flight time.

Can someone break this down for me? I'm a little confused as to part (i) & (ii) does this mean 250 hours PIC flight time of that has to be 100 hrs XC PIC and has to be 25 hrs night time PIC? The other question is SIC performing PIC while being Supervised of a PIC. Would this be related to a First Officer or as a New Captain on IOE, when would this happen?

For some reason, I was under the impression that you needed 150 hrs of PIC XC, but looks like it's only 100 hrs with night time. Is this correct?

Just gonna add this brah. That is one freaky ass avatar. Anyways you need 500 hours total cross country and yes you are correct on the 100 PIC XC or as supervised by a PIC.

That is for airline pilots that perform the duties of PIC on a flight so that they can get their ATP license even though it might be SIC.


250 hours of flight time in an airplane as a pilot in command
. which includes at least--

All this is saying is that you need 250 of PIC time that is 100 hours of XC PIC time and at least 25 Night PIC. You do not need 500 hours XC PIC time.

That's how I interpret it. Funny part is that whenever I ask someone from the FAA to clarify something for me, they just copy and paste the applicable regulation into an email and send it back. Sometimes even the lawyers can't figure out what the FAA regulations mean.
