ATP at Flight Safety

Hello,

I'm going to be getting my Dash8 type at Flight Safety Toronto. I've already completed my ATP written exam and so will be doing my flight portion at the same time as the sim ride. I am a little confused as to what happens next. Does the examiner at FSI give me a temporary ATP certificate? Do I have to take the Dash8 course completion certificate to the local FSDO at home and get it from them? I really don't know whats going on. I was hoping someone else had been in this situation before and might know.

I'm a little fuzzy on the situation. Are you saying you don't meet the qualifications to do the entire type rating in the simulator and you need to do the 15% in an airplane? Are you going to the course as part of an Aircrrew Training Program from a 121 carrier? Also, are you talking about a "type rating" or a type rating limited to SIC?

Yeah, I guess I was vague about this whole thing. No, I'm not doing it as part of a 121 carrier. The company I work for is paying for my training through FSI. I've got the ATP mins so it wouldn't be a restricted ATP and when I'm done I'll have my PIC type. Maybe I'm incorrect but I assumed that I'd get a new plastic pilot certificate that reflects the addition of my ATP once completed. So that brings me to my question. When complete with the ATP/Dash8 type ride does FSI give me a temporary certificate or do I have to go to a FSDO to get my certificate (and eventually my new plastic pilot license card)?

Okay. I think I've got the question.

The FSI person who does the check is an examiner and will issue the temporary certificate at the successful completion of the test.

I did an add on ATP single to my ATP multi at Flight Safety. As I recall, if you add on the ATP you automatically qualify for the FSI Pro Card. Might make a difference if you're trying to get insured, as I think you get a break on the rates.

Just be sure you let FSI know that you want it to be an ATP checkride in addition to the PIC Type Rating ride. Same ride, but different (additional) paperwork, I think.
