ATP 150 day Fast Track

Because the airlines are the only career you can make out of flying right!!!!!!?

I hear they are great for Multi addons and CFI/II/MEI though.
I did my mei/ii at atp after finishing through my cfi at a 141 university. I thought they did a nice job. Then I taught there until I had my hours to move on and I personally think the 90 day program is too fast for the majority of students. I hope students realize they only got the briefest of glances at what they need to know and that they shouldnt put their books away forever the day they finish their cfi's.

I work at GKY, but not at ATP. Their airplanes are in really good condition and it will be a good experience for you. I am not going to get into the FBO vs. ATP debate, because you have already made up your mind. Good luck.

Biggest thing I can say to prepare for, is working 2-3 jobs to pay off your loan for ATP after you complete it.

Flips! Twirls? You know.. Upsey Downey!

Oh, I'm perfectly aware of what aerobatics are...I've just never heard of "aerobatic time". Never seen that column in a logbook before.

How do you log it? Is it only the time which you are greater than 30 degrees of pitch or 60 degrees of bank? Do you have to be executing an aerobaatic maneuver to log it, or is unusual attitude training included? Do you have to be wearing a chute and in an appropriate category aircraft, or can you roll your Citation and log "aerobatic time"? Do you log it in tenths, or seconds?

you don't log it as aerobatic time.

You just look back and go: Holy that was fun.

besides, it's my logbook I can make an aerobatic time if I want

Good luck man. I did the private program there 3 years ago and then I did the 90 day program. All at GKY. Fun stuff. Just start looking through the books they sent you. Study on how to read a sectional. Don't let these other guys get you down mainly this elmetal guy. Sounds pretty negative. Like I said I went there got all my rating and then went on to flight instructing and now have been at a regional for almost a year. It was worth it for me. It was quick and I got here fast and I'm pretty young. You don't want to waste anytime. Plus I had a blast on my XC's. Good luck with it. Let us know what you think of the manager at GKY. Haha

Yeah, I'm a negative nancy. Don't waste time when you fly, make sure you get to an airliner fast! Because you know, flying the autopilot is much more fun.

Best advice RUN AWAY from ATP! But since your already committed good luck! Its good that ATP finally realized that the program takes longer than 90 days to complete. Your 150 day program is the same thing they were trying to do in 90 days. I guess they figured out that no one was completing the program in 90 days. Its because they teach such crap that they could even attempt to do it in 90 days.

Really? I did the 90 day program in 76 days.. My partner did it in a few days more than I only due to scheduling conflicts..

Just curious.. What sorta time do you have? What are you doing for a career? What are your goals.. Not a flame.. I'm totally with you on the "have a progression greater than C-172.. Piper Seminole.. Canadair CRJ.." I'm down with that..

I just don't understand your animosity toward ATP.. I did the program.. It had it's up.. it had it's downs.. I went to ATP to accomplish something - I wanted to get the ratings out of the way ASAP.. It did just that for me..

Why do you hate ATP soo badly?

And that's good! I just hate the big places that advertise, to those not in the know, that they will be in and out in 90 days and flying for an airline in 6 months. It's that kind of predator advertising I cannot stand. I don't mind ATP, I just don't like their ways of advertising. They all "have a contract" and "know the right people" and "can put you in a right seat in 6 months"

You and I know that's not true and you went there with one goal in mind, get the ratings and move on from there. That works, that's what they're for.

But the problem I have with them is a big chunk of their students are people who don't know that, and basically get sold on the idea and once you're in there's no way out.

Does that make sense? I think it's a great way to speed up training because a lot of times other schools won't have enough planes/instructors to accomodate you training practically 24/7 for 3 months so it works.

I just got upset at a few posts here or there and sometimes I can't help but answer when I really should just shut up and move on

Yeh, I can understand that, but who's job is it to educate?

A person who is about to spend money should educate themselves on their choices..

If a kid goes to ATP and falls for the car salesman hype, who's at fault?

FWIW - when I went through, it was very close to "do 90 days, work for us for 6 months, you'll be right seat at an airline.," it was closer to a year, I guess..

If you want to help steer people in the "right" direction, you'd be better off to approach it differently..

You never answered my time question.. What kinda time are you looking at? What are you doing in the industry? What is your next goal?

When I talk to people about a possible career in aviation, I don't speak in absolutes number one. Next, I am quick to point out the positives AND negatives in the industry. I show them what pilot payscales look like. I let them know about the instability of the industry. I tell them how hard training is. I mean it is certainly not all negative, but my goal is to give as much information to someone to help them make a decision on what and how they want to proceed. I also discuss the pluses and minuses of my own personal experiences; training at FBOs and working for ATP.

I truly do not believe that a huge chunk of ATP students are misinformed or believe they will be at an airline in 6 months. Not right now anyway. There was a time where that was feasible, and it looks like we are moving back that way. Right now, it is more like a year to a year and a half. For me, it was 2 years due to timing. However, many people here told me not to be in any hurry and enjoy the ride. I instructed for ATP for almost 2 straight years and absolutely loved it. The hours are hard and long, but I kept my chin up and stayed positive. There was never a moment I did not enjoy being up in the air.

Believe it or not, there are plenty of ATP students who have no desire to ever go to an airline.

I'm kinda stuck around 210 because I don't have money at this specific moment so I'm working and saving up enough to get my last 20-30 and then go for the comm with a CFI as well.

My main goal is to be a CFII. I want to teach people instruments because I had an amazing CFII and I want to return the favor to the community. Nothing is more satisfying than showing someone a different way to do something they were having trouble with and all of a sudden they master that which they were struggling with.

I know it's not the glorious pilot life that people imagine, but teaching is what I want so that's my goal.

I currently work in the fastener industry (nuts and bolts) but am looking to switch to what I really want to do. But we'll see how it goes.

It is not for everyone, but I derived great reward from instructing. It was very rewarding to see a challenging student succeed.
