ATP 150 day fast track

Take your time. Especially if you don't have a college degree first.

The goal of being in the airline job market within 6 months of finishing ATP isn't realistic. None of the people I know who are being hired have less than and ATP Multi-Land rating which requires, among other things, 1500hrs of total time. Get a 4 year degree if you don't have one and do your flight training without going into debt!

As to purchasing an aircraft, be careful. Unless you have a good working knowledge of aircraft insurance, maintain, and a good business plan, you'll be throwing money away.

I am fortunate in that my flight costs are being paid by uncle Sam, however, I earned every dime of it. I want to be in the job market as soon as I can, not in the airlines. My goal is to teach, and to be the best teacher that I can. I have not yet seen a post where someone says do not go to ATP? This forum is great!

I'm looking at doing the ATP 90 day course in about a year or so. My reasons:

1. GI Bill. I know I can use it at any 141 VA approved location but the few I have emailed don't seem to want to block 3 months to knock me out even with planning this far ahead.

2. I like the idea of the structure. After years in the military it's beat into my head, and I like it gives me daily/weekly goals to make.

3. Once again with the new GI Bill I can do this plus finish my degree and have some left for a masters.

4. I got a family to support if all go's well I will get 90% of the 90 day course done while still getting paid by the MAN. Hopefully when I'm done late summer of 2011 there will be some room for me in the market.

Well if the govt is buying, then by all means go wherever you think is best. Just remember, if you do the VA 141 with ATP you'll be in Craig. Which I'm sure you'll see in other forums has a reputation for being a place staffed by the "I'm on a power trip with my authority because I got picked on in high school" crowd. I did my CFI there almost a year ago and it was a horrible place. I heard that this past month an entire CFI class called it quits because they were being jerked around.
