ATC

I believe that ATC and police bands operate on different frequency and wavelenghts. There shouldn't be any bleeding of the frequencies.

Thanks. I thought you could but I just wanted to make sure. How much would you recommend spending on a police scanner?

if all you where going to do was listen to Aviation stuff... and listen to ATC while you are at the airport, I would say spend no more than 100 bucks. You can get a police scanner from Radio shack for under 100 that will work great. If you want one that is also a Great "Police" scanner, then I would look at a Uniden.

Just make sure the the scanner you get has aviation band capabilities. Not all scanners can scan freqs that high (or is it low?) I have an old Realistic (radio shack) scanner that does really nice on the police/fire side of things but can't handle ATC frequencies.

REally it's neither. Alot of scanners just don't have the 108-137 MHz Band. You can scan frequencies in the range below and above, but not within. I used to have one that also picked up the UHF Air band, but the one I use now doesn't - and I don't care because I'm not living at a military Air Station anymore...
