he said he has to do ground cuz the tiller is on CA side (didn't know that).
 
he's done already...yup, i did hear him. he has a good radio voice.

apparently, he was the flying pilot (i was wrong, i thought he was doing radio up till final but that was the other FO). but he says he always does ground at JFK (dunno why yet).

Good thing about atc live is that it is recoreded. Never hear DT on the freq. Anyone have a link of his "podcast" today lol!

what's it mean when they say "we have zulu"? are they talking about taxiway Z?

what does it mean when they say "squawk 2303" or some type of squawk?

what does it mean when they say "squawk 2303" or some type of squawk?

"We have zulu" is the from the automatic terminal information service which gives weather info and airport information like closed taxiways, or other important information.

The squawk code is a distinct number that a section on the radar picks up and that number is then matched to a computer database that has information on that flight and can display it on the radar scope for the controllers.

Probably a read back confirming to ground that they heard to take zulu.

Zulu is recorded ATIS information which they have to listen to before calling clearance delivery.

IIRC you live in SDL, you can listen to what an ATIS recording sorta sounds like by calling this number 480-483-3049. Usually they have phone numbers for the ATIS but I don't know what happened to those, maybe the FAA trying to save money.
 
I'm hearin a lot of manual clearances. Suprised that JFK doesn't have ACARS ability.

Or is clearance giving manual clearances to airlines sans ACARS?
 
My guess is tower... they're waiting for takeoff now, not clearance. should be getting the word anytime now.

just heard a woman pilot on a korean air....i didn't know they had women pilots flying for them. that's pretty cool!
 
uh.. altho flightaware is showing they'd already taken off... hmmmm....so JFK tower doesn't do takeoff, just landings? who does takeoffs?

edit: just once...i think i have to listen to NY Departure in order to hear the takeoffs etc...i'm learning new stuff all the fricken time

Tower always handles takeoff. They own the runways! But with multiple runways each will typically have a different tower freq. so it's possible that maybe he was on one freq and liveatc was monitoring/broadcasting a different freq.

Departure handles planes after they have been handed off from tower. But before a plane is handed off to "center."
 
so far, i found them on boston center...it'll probably be moncton in an hour or something along those lines.. haha
