ATC COlor Vision Testing

My Flight Surgeon

Sr. Aviation Medical Examiner
In the Fall of 2008 the FAA began to administer the ATCOV which is a computer based operational color vision test for new applicants and those on board controllers who may fail the tradition pseudoisochromic plates.

This is all of the information I have about this at this time.

It goes without saying, but if you hear ANY other details please do advise. Thanks Doc.

On a side note, I wonder where and for whom this new test is administered. It sounds like everyone that goes to the ATC medicals are all given the pseudo tests. I know I was.

Found a link that talks a little about it. I'd be curious if someone in the application process, that knows color vision will be an issue, could go to the regional flight surgeon and take the test. No point in doing the ATSAT, psych test and all that other stuff if you can't pass this new test. If anyone takes it, let us know what it is. Pseudo plates? Farnsworth lights? Or something that acutally simulates the ATC environment (because, quite frankley, those tests do not). Hopefully it's more of a practical test.
