ATA discontinues all operations

All I have to say about the ATA issue is this.

The ATA pilots better get jobs at North American or World before any new hire does.

Just in case anyone forgot, those three airlines are owned and managed by the same hedge fund organization.

We're going to help them out, but we don't owe them a thing. It's gets me really ticked that some of the TZ pilots think that the have a right to come over here and bump our guys. You should have come here in the first place, not try come hijack a spot on the seniority list.

Are there really TZ guys who think that they should get some sort of "merging in"?

I think it would be great if preferential hiring was given to them, but certainly that means hiring, as in being a new-hire.

I disagree. The list should have been combined in the first place when GAL was created and World, NAA, and ATA all came under one holding company. This is a giant whipsaw. Fences should be created to protect anyone from getting "bumped," but all ATA pilots should have seniority rights at GAL companies. ALPA will certainly fight for these pilots' jobs.

Per the Chief Pilot and DO we wre giving them preferential hiring, and that's it. They were looking into whether we could take TZ DC-10 drivers and put them through INDOC and a condensed ground school so that we could get them on the line faster. Make no mistake about it, they will be new-hires and at the bottom of the list. Teamsters will accept no less.

PCL,

You know I love you, man and you're completely correct in the above statement. BUT, since it didn't happen at the time...

At least they're getting preferential hiring. There are a LOT of ALPA carriers who won't even go that far for these guys. Believe me, I work for one of them. Our MEC tries to get preferential hiring for displaced pilots from places like Aloha and ATA all the time. Our management won't hear of it. And ALPA National doesn't even attempt to pressure them.

If ALPA wanted to fight for their jobs, they should have made a big stink about merging the GAL lists. They didn't.

Thank God the Teamsters are supporting the hiring of these poor guys and GAL is willing to work with the Union.

From ALPA's latest press release dealing with the ATA situation:

“Our position is that we are pilots of Global Aero Logistics, which is still operating, and we deserve to be in the cockpits of Global’s airliners. Our contract says that the pilots go with the airplanes, and we will use every legal means available to us to ensure that our members’ rights are protected”

The AMR umbrella encompasses American Airlines and American Eagle, and those pilots are on separate senority lists.

Let's be VERY clear that that is coming from the ATA ALPA and NOT ALPA National.

I agree with you, but like Velo said, if National ALPA was going to try to get the lists merged, they should have done it before ATA shutdown.

Their contract says that thye go with the planes, that's all well and good. WE AREN'T TAKING ANY OF YOUR PLANES THEREFORE WE DON'T HAVE TO TAKE YOU!!! I love that we are looking at being punished because of the idiocy of your company. I hope ATA-ALPA gets burned big time on this one.

The press release was put out by ALPA National. The quote is coming from the ATA Chairman, but it has been filtered through dozens of attorneys and the national leadership. You know how that works. ;)

Legal has been considering ways to handle this since the GAL situation first surfaced. Legal work is slow and monotonous.

First, not my company. I'm just an ATA ALPA supporter and posting a press release. Also, I'm curious why you would consider it "punishment" to have a list integration that would end a massive whipsaw? Do you not consider the GAL whipsaw to be a threat to your job security?

I hope ATA-ALPA gets burned big time on this one.

That's nice. :sarcasm:

You and I saw different press releases. I saw the source of that quote and that one had not come through National. I now see that National (well, Rusty Ayers) has put out a release that has that quote in it.

Even press releases put out by individual MECs are usually heavily vetted by attorneys in Herndon. At the very least, the Contract Admin will review it. National doesn't like press releases going out that haven't been subjected to legal review.

Why is it a punnishment? Are you serious? How can you justify integrating the lists from two different companies that have never had any sort of partnership? We didn't merge, their holdings company bought us, thats it. If there was a full on merger then list integration is something that should be dealt with, but there wasnt. ATA Alpa won't win this one, they need to accept their situation and start looking for jobs as new hire f/o's, not look for jobs by screwing the pilots of WO and NA.

I suggest reading LOA 2 (Holding Letter) from the ATA pilots' '02 agreement. It addresses ATA's relationship with acquired and merged carriers as it relates to the holding corporation.
