At what age did you move out of your parents' house?

for you older folk:

do you think it is still feasible to move out at age 18 and never come back. (assuming one lives in a major city such as LA). one thing i hate about living in this day and age is the age you have to be to get a job. my dad got his first job whence he was 12. working at a fruit stand.

Now you're lucky to get work at age 16.

opinions?

i couldnt agree with you more. i live in manhattan beach and there is not a chance in he!! that i will ever be able to afford to live in los angeles on a regional pay. thats why mom and dads house will be my house too as long as they let me.

21 now, still at home. Won't be moving out for another year. It's a drag sometimes, but as a student pilot, paying as he goes, the free room and board is oh-so-nice.

Are you kidding..I started workin when I was 12 and i'm only 24 now. Theres always and I mean ALWAYS jobs available.

I flew with a guy who lived in Orange County about 2 miles of SNA and he said he won't leave his parents house because he couldn't afford to live anywhere near there.

I know that crap wouldn't fly around here. I guess its not so bad if you pay some rent and some utilities to help the folks out but mooching off the 'rents for that long is kinda ####ty.

yes always jobs available but not for 12-16 year olds. now everything requires a permit or lisence... etc etc.

also 12 years ago is a big difference than today.

i guess it depends where you live...

you got a lawn mower/rake/broom/ how about hose and soap?

congrats...your a business owner!

Oh yah...I made more mowing yards when I was 14 than I did as a CFI...thats kinda sad.

He11 yes, it is. You just can't be lazy. You might have to work alot, and sacrifice more - but then again, isn't that what growing up is all about?

Left at 18 when I went to college, came back for a summer, left for FL the summer after that. Moved back in when we left FL due to the hurricane blitz and the levelling of my flight school. Moved back out when I went to Skymates, moved back in during training at PCL while hunting for a house, moved out (hopefully for good) about two months ago.

I agree that moving out of the 'rental's house will cause you to mature faster. I learned more about budgeting, working and managing myself in general after I moved out of my parent's house than I ever thought I would. My brother still lives there (he's 26), and he's scared to move out. Part of the problem is that he doesn't know anyone he feels is responsible to cover their half of rent and bills. Add to that there are NO jobs around here at the entry level that you could pay rent/bills on your own, and he's kinda stuck.

So, IMO, there are circumstances that will either keep you from moving out or sending you packing back to circle the wagons.

yes i agree. i will be working during the next 2 summers. then when college comes. ill fly. go to school and work at least 1 job. When that all ends ill prolly. be a MEI and work at least another job on top of that.

its the only way

Move out of my parents' house?! Why would I want to do that?!?!

words to live by. Everyone I talk to tells me to stay with my parents as long as I can.

Current plan is for me to get done with college and work for about a year or two and go to a flight school. So ill be around 23-24 when I expect to move out. No rent/food/utilites for as long as im in school that they are paying for.

Out for college at 18. Came back for the first summer and haven't been back for more then a week at a time since.

There is ALWAYS a way to make enough money to live on your own (once you are out of high school anyways and for some people, before). You might not be able to live in the town you want, but with hard work (lots and lots of hard work some times) you can make it happen.

I've flown with some CA's who are in their mid-late 30's and they still live at home with the 'rents.

N422NM cant go back home cause he is afraid he will get caught trying to sneak back across the border.

i was out at 18 for college, back at 19 when i was suspended for a semester, back out to college at 20, back home at 22, then moved to phoenix at 24.

:yeahthat:
Ouch....LMAO

BTW, I need my green card back if you are done making your forgeries so you can sell them on Ebay...
