I remember digging in the little mini market thing we have in the lounge in LA, dug out a Dr. Pepper and someone screams “BELAY THAT ORDER” and hands me one from the fridge for free. That guy set the standard for management-employee relations in a number of ways.

Messin’ with Phil is going to end up with whoever it is waking up with a severed horses head next to them like “The Godfather”.

I’m not referring to anything about him other than that PA. Sorry, but it still sounds like he’s making a covenant that the crews of PSA or EDV didn’t (or forgot), and yeah I think that’s kinda messed up. Those crew, too, held the lives of their crew and passengers as #1.

I’m in the boat of PAs should just be the normal thing as usual.

Phil’s exactly the example of …IF YOU HAVE THE SKILLSET… how to do a PA like that.

But most people do not have that skill set.

But Phil does.

I’m confident most of my coworkers would agree: KEEP PHILS NAME OUCHA MOUF! :)

Um yeah, that’s assault. I don’t know why any crowd would encourage the behavior that was Will Smith. A joke he originally laughed at but then seconds later got pissed because his wife was pissed. So please don’t excuse assault.

To the main point, I’m not commenting on the man himself, rather, the PA. We all know there’s been a rash of recent crashes. Jeju, PSA, Bering, Endeavor, and some near misses too. Making a PA like that comes off as making a personal pact that otherwise wouldn’t have been made if Jeju/PSA/EDV hasn’t happened.

My point is, it isn’t necessary, and the implication it comes off as is those crews somehow forgot the pact or didn’t make one. But here, I am making a pact with you, therefore, we won’t end up like them.


That just comes off wrong. And I couldn’t care less how well you know him. The more you know him, the more personal bias you will have and all the more reason I can’t have this debate with you on PA content in this particular case. You seem offended at the concept of the man Phil.l being attacked, which isn’t the case.

For the record, Will Smith was assault AND battery beause he threatened to harm Chris (assault) and battery when he actually slapped him. No one is going to risk their job for a mouthy Alaska Airlines internet bully so you’re safe.

He’s not an IP. Former F-15 strike eagle pilot, then test pilot, then multi-fleet aggressor pilot at Nellis.

Line pilot, then captain then LAX CP. He’s the type of guy that would literally give you the shirt off his back, make sure you’re fed and also stand with the pilots in fights with management, which I’ve been party to. Gregarious, great public speaker, super friendly, so to see people on the internet attempt to go after him, hot damn… tragically stupid target selection because he has a cult-like following and he’s really THAT awesome of a person.

Want to screw with someone? Go find one of the influencers that spend more time on their hair and setting up cameras than they’ve been hours flying their entire career.

Not my wife. Took her to Thunder over Michigan years ago. I had her attention at 10am. By 1230pm, she was asking when this would be over.


For a pilot wife, she’s very non-aviation.

Can’t speak to the panties thing. Probably the best PR guys who fly airplanes though. It’s easy to be jealous. A lot harder to understand they got picked to do what they do for a reason.
