Good times it was dude!
Yup, Scarp Iron still flies them here, as well as some range support detachments around places like White Sands and Yuma Proving Ground. But as frontline Army aircraft, the Army seems to hate the Huey........probably a Vietnam stigma I can only guess.

Article should imply the single-engine Huey's (H models). The twin-pack Hueys (N/Y models) aren't the classic originals.
Freaking cool as hell flying the UH-1H/V, especially since most all the birds down here I'm flying have documented Vietnam combat time, and since it's such a classic helo.

The chinaman is not the issue here, Dude! I'm talking about drawing a line in the sand....
I look at the single-engine Hueys as like the 747-200 classics, whereas the N/Y are more the 747-400.
All still great birds though.

The -H model is a nice bird, but if I were to be in combat again the -60 is far superior in speed, maneuverability and survivability. Not to mention it has wheels. Skids are for kids. Actually wheels are much better for assault type landings, especially in the desert.

No. I think he means that this is something like the third time the Army has announced the Huey is going to be gone from the fleet, in the last 5-10 years. Typical military stuff
Maybe they mean it this time!?!

It's time for the Army to retire the legacy airframes ... I know a few legacy aviators that should be retired also ...
The Army allows an Aviator to continue to fly ... I know a few that are close to 62 yrs. old on extensions ... and when they are finally retired will prob reappear within a week as Contractors doing the same job.
