64 will never....NEVER go to the swoopy guys. It's not a new idea and had been addressed many a time. Two problems.....mobility and maintenance

I don't buy the Maintenance excuse. If they can maintain a 47G with all the mission systems on that things minimum launch criteria an D/E model Apache isn't a stretch.
The last eval they did of the platform involved A models which didn't have anywhere near the OR rate we've generated in Afghanistan or Iraq. Mobility is no different than a Hawk. Only if Task Force owned them they'd probably have the mooring lugs and blade fold kits 1/aircraft as an MTOE rather than the rest of the Army sharing the small number that bounce between units for deployment.
That said we can't do what the AH-6 does, but they can't do some of the stuff we do either.
End of the day I don't see them giving up what they have because what they have works for them. They only use us because there are 4 battalions of assault aviation but only 1 has guns with AH/DAP. So as long as they continue to work in AOs where conventional aviation is co-located it's too easy to just demand the Joint Forces Commander apportion assets from the Land Component to support SOF.
