Jet U Sucks became a quotable source when those students got together, hired attorneys and took a stand and starting going after the bad guys that were taking tuition from students and not providing that training.

If I were a betting man, I would bet someone is going to jail because of what those students have accomplished.

Whatever dude. I take what JetUsucks has to say about as seriously as I take what PETA has to say.

Well perhaps you should take them more seriously.

For 3 decades flight school students have been getting ripped off in this country and no one did anything about it until the Jet U Sucks students came along.

Remember who will benefit if flight school students do not get ripped off.

Would you buy a car without looking at the loan contract? Or doing some research? Would you buy a house without some sort of research? I don't feel bad for these people. And to throw all part61 schools under the bus because JetU says "Part61 schools is bad JUJU. You's gonna get ripped off by dem's." I think you're going a little off the deep end here Joe.

Bottom line, do some research before you make a huge purchase, and we wouldn't have websites and "credible"(<-- )arguments of JetUsucks.

Well, why are you exercising "bias" in your opinion of their work? Have you read anything that they've done? Or just because they use the word "sucks" in their title, you are concluding that they're worthless?

Re: Arizona Flight Schools Declared Hobby Schools by the Sta

So, according to the quote in the OP, non-Part 141 schools are "hobby schools" and are to be avoided by the pilot aspiring to an aviation job. Yet wasn't it Part 141 schools which did the ripping off?

Don't let logic enter a discussion. If people used logic, they would realize that often times the bad decisions made in flight training are made by students not reading the contracts they sign.

The Trial Lawyers, right?

You're a Florida lawyer, aren't you, Joe? Why don't you worry about Florida and let the folks in Arizona worry about Arizona?

I think you are missing this. The State of Arizona declared all non part 141 flight schools as "hobby schools" and not for the professional pilot. Those words were put out by the State of Arizona not the Jet U students.

The Jet U students said do your homework and don't go to hobby schools in Arizona if you want to be a professional career pilot. They specifically mentioned going to flight schools in California, Colorado or Utah because the tuition is protected in those states.

And how many pilots were trained and got jobs before 141 existed?

Actually most of the student tuition money lost was in Part 61 programs. I recall 34 million being lost in Arizona over the past 4 years and of that 12 million was from part 141 and 22 million from part 61.

It is mostly a part 61 problem.

So I guess ATP, based at IWA, beeing a pt61 school, is a hobby school? See my point now? I guess I am considered a paid hobby pilot then. Because thats where I got my certs. at.

Yes that is what the State of Arizona said. Sucks doesn't it?

Re: Arizona Flight Schools Declared Hobby Schools by the Sta

What ever happened to not paying upfront? I did my training out of a pt 61 flight club out of VNY. I got loans from Teri, sent straight to me not the school and only gave the school $1000 at a time to get the discounted block rates.

If they were to fold, I was only out a grand...

See my previous post. They are not much more than an activist organization. Just look at how poorly the law in CA was written. It was written to include ALL CFI's. Including the guy that is retired and only does flight reviews for his friends.

Now you absolutely know that is not true. ALL CFI's that collect less than $2500 from a student are EXEMPT from the California regulation.

That would include the retired guy that only does flight reviews for his friends. I'll be happy to look up the law and find the section that provides this exemption if you folks can't find it.

Again, so far all you have been able to come up with is stuff that JetUsucks is interpreting. Ones sided as far as I can see right now.

We have to pay for the roads somehow :D

It's not up to them to write the law... I don't really see why you take out frustration over poor lawmaking out on activists. Anyone who pays in advance for flight training shouldn't be stiffed. If the companies involved aren't responsible enough to live up to this, a law obviously, unfortunately has to be made to force them to.

For the record, ERAU had, when I was there, an up front payment OR pay-as-you-go system. They never stiffed their students (except for the prices, it could be argued). I have purchased flight time before flying it in large blocks, because a school that I was doing this through offered a discount for "bulk purchases", a la Costco.
