Well, are you? The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. It is the greatest aviation organization I know of. They fight for your right to fly. They fight airport closures. They fight FAA proposals that will hurt pilots and compromise safety. They fight FAA fee hikes. They fight to make aviation better.

Some good examples of what AOPA has done:
  • AOPA faught to reduce the time period necessary between medicals. That is why 1st class medicals will now be good for 1 year, and 3rd class medicals will be good for 5 years!! Thank you AOPA.
  • AOPA faught local governments wanting to close airports and turn them into houses and shopping malls. They do this many times a year, and they are almost always successful. Thank you AOPA.
  • AOPA faught the recent FAA funding proposal. The FAA wanted to charge general aviation pilots a lot of money. They wanted to TRIPPLE avgas tax. They wanted to charge money for flying through/landing at class bravo. They wanted to charge something like $50 for your pilot certificate, and another $35 or so everytime you got a new rating. They wanted to charge hundreds of dollars a year to register an aircraft. They wanted pilots to pay more. Now, the senate bill has rescinded all of those increases. Thank you AOPA.

For $39 a year, you get an AOPA membership. You will be part of a powerful organization of 400,000+ pilots. You get 12 magazines a year, and they are great. You can get either AOPA pilot or AOPA Flight Training. Both are great. They also send you free stuff from time to time.

If you are not a member, you really should be.
Check out www.aopa.org for more information.

If you aren't a member, you have nothing to complain about.

So if you *are* a member, you have *something* to complain about?

Not having anything to complain about sounds like a good deal to me. I better drop my membership!

;)

Sorry, the grammar nazi in me slipped out for a minute.

I was a member when I was a student. Now that I'm an airline pilot, I didn't renew my membership. Cost too damn much!! :cwm27:
