Are CFI jobs plentiful? Or hard to come by?

It just kinda hit me today... I'm going to be done with my CFI within the next three weeks (checkride was scheduled by my instructor today)-- and plan on moving right into the CFII and MEI right after-- so, theoretically, I'll be on the job market in less than 2 months. My question is, have people in here struggled with finding jobs? Should I expect to find one around me (I live in Phoenix, and would prefer to work here for at least one year)... like a job within Arizona? Or, should I be expecting to move half way across the country in 2 months time? I'm curious to know what other newly minted CFI's have experienced?

Also, if anyone knows of a good place in Arizona to send a resume to who may potentially be looking for a CFI... I'll sure take any input/advice

I think there is a school at Falcon Field that is looking for a CFI. I don't remember the name but I saw an ad for it on the bulletin board here at Westwind. In my opinion the Phoenix area is highly saturated with CFIs and it might be somewhat difficult to find a job.

If you're willing to move, there are jobs. Lots of them. I'm not making that up, really. If you're determined to stay in your own area, however, it can be pretty difficult. When people say to stay single, they have a valid point. The more tie-downs you have, the more difficult it can be...

I agree with the above post. The regionals/small freight are hiring creating more and more CFI jobs. There are plenty of open CFI jobs. Yes, you may need to move in order to get one. Being mobile is the key to boosting your career.

The reason I ask if CFI jobs are plentiful is that in the two states I've done training, Minnesota and Arizona, I haven't seen many CFI jobs posted. Where are most of the CFI jobs located? Is there a certain area of the U.S.? Or are they scattered everywhere?

try texas. they have a ton of flight schools, as does florida. i'm sure already know that though. i've been looking for a few months. i've had a few lined up but all have ended up falling through at the last minute for various reasons. like the others said, BE WILLING TO MOVE.

If you're having a hard time finding listings for CFI jobs you're not looking in the right place. Try climbto350.com. Also, AOPA has a classified section with CFI jobs. If you join NAFI, they have job listing as well. The jobs are out there and are increasing....go find them.

I haven't checked recently but last I checked they had something like 15-20 listings. Some were old though. I found my current job through the NAFI website.

If you are training in arizona there are tons of chances out here in the valley of the sun. The weather is good year round though does get hot. Its perfect for flying however as there are very few down days for weather. Tons of students flock to arizona for this reason. I think if you just get your resume ready and hand one to everyone out there and follow up you will find something.
