Are all AA Pilots American? or...

So I'm having my coffee this morning listening to the NY Approach feed on liveatc.net....and there were two different AA flights and the pilots had very heavy accents. So my question is, are all American Airline pilots American, or do they have pilots from other countries....or what?

What does having an accent, or not, have to do with citizenship? A lot of Americans(and pilots)have accents. We're a diverse country of people, remember? I'm sure AA's pilot group is as diverse as any other large airline.
 
Yeah, you should hear me when I'm tired, drunk, or been hanging out with my family too much. That Southern accent comes out REALLY REALLY badly. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif On the other hand, I think it's a lot easier for pilots from other countries to fly over here than it works vice versa. You only have to be able to read and write English fluently. Not even sure if you have to be a citizen, but that's an immigration issue, not an FAA issue.

I don't disagree, and that very well could be the case, either way, I'm still curious if they have pilots who are not American citizens at all.

Yeah I've been pretty broken of the redneck twang, but once I'm around it again for a little while it all starts to come back. So if I go back home for a few days, I'll start to sound like a hick and Emily will make fun of me until I talk "normal" again.
 
I dont think AA has a visa support deal that would let them employ foreing nationals here. But the again the accent could have been a guy from Boston on one flight and a guy from Texas on another. Big accent change plus remember you are hearing it on a radio transmission.
 
Well, seeing how both of my parents have been here since the 1950s, and they're both citizens, and they both still have accents....

You don't lose an accent. You might be able to bury it for a while, disguise it, but it's part of you.

So those dudes may have come here from say, Vietnam in the 1970s, grown up here, got naturalized, and still retained it.
 
My understanding on this issue, is that all you need is to be legal to work in the USA. I believe this include people with green cards. you don't need to be a citizen to work for and airline. please correct me if i'm wrong.
