Stuart Mackenzie: Would ya look at the size of that boy's head!
Tony Giardino: Shhh!
Stuart Mackenzie: I'm not kidding, it's like an orange on a toothpick.
Tony Giardino: Shhh, you're going to give the boy a complex.
Stuart Mackenzie: Well, that's a huge noggin. It's a virtual planetoid!
Tony Giardino: Shh!
Stuart Mackenzie: Has it's own weather system!
Tony Giardino: Sh, sh, shh.
Stuart Mackenzie: HEAD! MOVE!
Stuart Mackenzie: I'm not kidding, that boy's head is like Sputnik; spherical but quite pointy at parts! Now that was offsides, wasn't it? He'll be crying himself to sleep tonight, on his huge pillow.

At CAL, summer uniforms DO NOT require jackets or hats. Come fall, hats and jackets are required until spring. I think the international guys have to wear coats and hats when flying overseas to avoid the americana casual image look.

It's funny, everybody fought like hell to change our company's policy of "hats required whenever visible to the public" to hats optional. Then we started picketing and imagine my surprise when, "hats and jackets are required". Evidently, when the union wants the general public to look at us with awe and reverence, we wear the hat. The rest of the time, go ahead and look like you slept in your uniform and don't bother with the hat.

Then...Company changed uniforms from blue uniforms to black. They told us we would NOT be getting hats paid for as part of the uniform allotment because they were now optional, as the pilots had requested. The Union kicked and screamed and insisted hats were to be supplied by the company as per the contract. Company agreed...now we get hats if we want. Regardless, I love the hat. It's tradition. Judges wear robes, lawyers wear suits, Sears employees wear cheesy dockers with expandable waist bands, and pilots wear hats.

"[FONT=Helvetica, Arial].....the classic "bomber pilot" headgear, worn by USAAF pilots in Europe and the Pacific! Actually, this was the standard Army/AAF officer's dress cap, worn by pilots and non-pilots alike, but pilots gave this cap their own unique twist. Normally, this cap had stiffeners -- a support piece behind the cap device and a wire around the inside top perimeter to maintain the cap's round shape. These kept the cap in its proper, regulation military shape and angle. However, since bomber pilots wore headsets over their caps during flights, they would remove the wire stiffener to make headset wear more comfortable, causing the sides of the caps to become crushed. Eventually, the caps retained their floppy "crushed" look, giving the pilot who wore it the look of a seasoned veteran. The crush cap identified its wearer as an experiened pro, and was as much a part of his identity as his leather flight jacket." (http://www.uswings.com/avcap.asp)

Since I don't wear it with my headsets on...I leave the "dork ring" in it. I'm pretty sure it's not suppose to look like a beret.

My 2 pennies.
