Approach missing from Garmin 430 database?

Tonight while flying on an instrument XC, something strange happened. We were planning to shoot the RNAV (GPS) 17 approach in to York, Nebraska (KJYR).

When we attempted to load the approach in the Garmin 430, it wasn't listed. All of the other approaches at the airport were available except the RNAV 17.

I verified the database was current and tried loading other approaches, then coming back to the RNAV 17, but it never showed up.

When I manually added JEDED, one of the RNAV 17 IAFs, to the flight plan, it plotted the location accurately. However, I still couldn't load the approach.

We ended up flying the RNAV 35 circle to land on 17 and everything worked fine for that approach.

Anyone have any idea what happened?

Sometimes Garmin accidently drops approaches when they do updates. Call them up and let them know the problem and they will fix the problem in the next update. I had this happen with the GPS approach into SFZ last July.

Hey everyone,

I talked to Garmin's NavData department today and the guy confirmed they had intentionally pulled the approach from the database during the last revision cycle, and that it was scheduled to go back in to the database during the next cycle.

He wasn't sure why, but suggested it might have been temporarily NOTAM'd out of service during the last database update which would have caused them to pull it.

Learn something new every day! Thanks for the tips.
