approach briefing suggestions?

I think what it comes down to is acronyms work for some people, and they don't work for others. If they work use 'em, if you get confused, for the love of god use something else. I have no problem with acronyms or dropping them in the correct situation, so I find they help me immensely. If it's alphabet soup to someone else, I'm sure they have a way of remembering that wouldn't work for me.

Agree. I just see too many guys that have this list of acronyms because they think, or were told, that it's the only way to do it. Then they get confused by it, and things go down from there. Agree, find what works for you and use it....this is one of those things where there's 20 ways to get the same thing done. Again, so long as the procedures get accomplished, how one gets there is no problem (unless they're obviously making too much work for themselves).

[/ QUOTE ]I agree. The related problem is that sometimes the mnemonic ends up being treated as more important than the information it's supposed to represent

Remember my quiz about the stall warning horn being inop in a 172? Where ever I've done it, those who memorized TOMATO FLAMES or GOOSE-A-CAT were consistently more likely to get it wrong than those who never even heard of the mnemonic.

GOOS-A-CAT? Never heard that one. I think one of the major problems is that students are focusing on memorizing TOMATOFLAMES and forgetting other things like the POH and a possible MEL. Half the time I forget one of the As in TOMATO or FLAMES. So, I bust out 91.125. It's right 100% of the time.

I think he meant 91.213
