Apprenticeship - A/P

So I keep hearing a lot of people recommending this route for getting the certs. The only thing is, how do you get one? Are the advertised or do you have to go beat some pavement and visit some FBOs/repair shops? Are they looking for anything experience-wise? What could I expect to make?

If anyone was any advice on this, I'd love to hear it. I really don't want to keep going to school, but I will if I have to.

Thanks in advance,

I checked into this as well about 3 months ago and, well, it seems like a bit of a lost cause in this economy. Every operator I talked to who said they were hiring wants an A&P, not an apprentice. When I explained it to them all I got was a good luck.
:dunno:

We have an A&P "school" here but at present AFAICT they are only doing prepping and testing for those who are already qualified to take the prep, sit for the written and take the practical.

I'd love to get my A&P too, for the education, benefit and to have another bit of a safety net.
