Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone knows the next time there will be a posting on usajobs.gov for the Air Traffic Control Specialist Trainee? I heard the last one was in Sep sometime? how many times do they post openings and is that the only way to apply for a street canidate?

Will it help me at all that I have my single/multi commercial w/ instrument rating and a B.S. in Aviation Science?

Thanks everyone!

with that degree why not try for a different position? im sure you can get a higher up position for something other then ATC for the FAA...

as far as lisitings, what i did was just check the website everyday. once you apply it takes a while for them to contact you (at least for me it did). i applied in the summer and i was notified to take the test late november

The latest opening was PUBNAT7 for off the street applicants. It closed in the middle of December. The process is a long one..about a year right now from the time you apply until you get to OKC, and there a lot of steps to take before that happens. You are looking for openings that say PUBNAT for off the street...it will look like this: AAC-AMH-08-PUBNAT5-10363. This is the only way for off the street applicants to apply.

I hear maybe another early this year but no one really knows.

The degree and flight time will help, especially if you have a solid work experience to go along with it.

I'm close to your situation: I have my flight ratings and a B.S. in Aeronautics from ERAU; If you have a solid work experience coupled with your schooling, you should be a great candidate and competitive. But, make sure to score well qualified on the AT-SAT (85 or higher). Lots of well qualified people applying right now. Some are getting in with lower, Qualified scores, but it seems like a high majority have WQ scores.

Good Luck

I don't know if I would go as far as saying that...I don't think having ratings, etc will help that much in ATC training, but having a degree and a bit of aviation knowledge can't hurt you for selection. Just my $.02

As far as the selection goes, I disagree. But, it will help in your general knowledge of what goes on on the other side of the mic, and general phraseology....

Oh wait pilots use whatever phraseology they want and I will get written up and possibly decertified if I don't go exactly by the book:panic::sarcasm:

Nice, LOL. That is true. Some pilots out there are horrible when it comes to talking on the radio.

I do agree that some are really bad on the mic and talk way to much or cant understand them. Thanks for the info though. I was just wondering.

A bachelors degree will only get you as high as an F band position within the organization unless you have at least a year of prior work experience at or above a position higher than that(F band).

For Example:

You cannot apply on a G band position unless you have a Masters degree or 1 year of prior work experience at or above the F band level.

You cannot apply on a H band position unless you have 1 year of prior work experience at or above the G band level.

etc etc etc...
