Applying to a major with no practical experience

Yeah my plan is to apply for every regional hiring but I was just wondering if it would hurt at all to apply to a major as well. Thanks for the advice!

That's the way to do it. Apply everywhere. Just keep in mind that you may be invited to not apply again for a year at some of the majors (Southwest in particular). My experience has been: if you don't have their desired mins, they just round-file the app and don't give you a second thought.

Wiki has a list of regionals that's handy:

I'm pretty sure I applied to ALL of the U.S. regionals! I ended up picking up a GREAT dispatch job after only a month or so of applications. It usually takes longer, so don't sweat it.

If you don't mind living in Alaska, there's pretty much always something open there! :/

Good luck!

Alaska isn't that bad...lived here most of my life. Summers are awesome (unless we get a wet summer), winters are mild (a lot worse in some midwest states), though winter does last a tad bit longer here.

It's more what opportunities are up here. Only a few 121 carriers, quite a few 135 ops though, more in the summer than the winter for some places.

But I also agree with doing the apply to everyone mentality. Your first opportunity may be the hardest to get!
