Apply Up To 66 ?

The DHC-8 start-up, Connect Airlines (Waltzing Matilda Aviation), has been doing a good bit of advertising for pilots recently. There are a couple of iterations of their ad including up to $48K in bonuses, Canadian licenses, green cards...everything but send in the Aussies.

But the ad linked below says "Apply Up To 66" which I assume means age 66. So, IF it's a Part 121 operation with a US base, how can pilots apply...and apparently fly...up to age 66 ? I must be missing something. What is it ?

BobD,

Puzzling indeed. As for being hubbed in Canada, there is this from another one of their ads. As for licensing, getting a Canadian an FAA ATP or vice versa is apparently not too difficult. The ability to legally live/work in the USA is more complicated:

"Base: PHL or ORD"

"Must have legal authorization to work in the United States and/or Canada and travel in/out of United States and/or Canada without restriction

Airline Transport Pilot Certificate Multi-Engine Land (Transport Canada or FAA)"

Some more info on Connect Airlines:

After 5 years, you’re 200k ahead in earnings of where you’d be at a US major! This is definitely the place to go!

Looks like they modified their post to read "up to age 64."

That makes more sense. I'd think their problem would be finding captain material, i.e., those with the 1000 hours Part121 time...and willing to roll the dice on this kind of operation when so many more solid options are available these days.

Well, I may be in the minority, but at nearly 68 I see enough cognitive and memory changes personally to know I’d be happier with experienced pilots of a younger age flying me to wherever. YMMV.

Bob,

You may be right about that but this company may not be able to get the demographic you mention. It remains to be seen what happens...and of course, we won't get a look behind the curtain on their hiring situation.

Fun to watch...
