Apply for ENJJPT?

Typically there's an EN slot or two for OTs heading on to UPT and I've been trying to decide whether or not to apply. On the surface it seems like a no-brainer, but a friend of mine said he's glad he didn't go through Sheppard and wouldn't trade his experience for anything.

I'm AD so I guess I'm concerned about getting there and at some point during the training deciding I'd rather track heavies, helos, or -44s and then having my back against a wall and few options. Also heard the training environment is different with the international aspect and smaller AD contingent, as in the relationships with your classmates is different than at UPT, true? I don't really want to pass up an opportunity, but would like to keep my options open, anyone got any insight or advice?
 
IMHO, ENJJPT doesn't have anything to offer other than a strange mystique for guys who haven't been there yet. The only thing ENJJPT used to have going for it was the "guaranteed fighter". Once that went away, it pretty much lost whatever advantage it may have had over SUPT.

The stuff about international classmates, international IPs, less sim time and more flying time...those are things that will have no impact on your training, but can make the experience different (not necessarily better or worse).

The wings that go on your chest are exactly the same size/shape and every other SUPT grad's, and I've never noticed any difference in the type/quality of pilot that emerges from that program.

What Hacker said. And to reiterate, you can get a heavy out of Sheppard now just as you can at other UPT bases. Don't know if helos are coming out of there though.
 
Thanks for the input guys. From the drops I've seen on baseops there's a heavy or two and some AFSOC platforms per class so I wouldn't be pigeonholed entirely. I might drop my name in the hat at the time but won't put too much stock in it, wings are wings.

And a UAV is a UAV. So don't worry yourself over it.

But seriously, ENJPPT is no different than any other UPT base in terms of assignment chances or guarantees. It used to have an edge for fighter cockpits, but these days its just another UPT location with a bunch of euro students and IPs running around.
 
I wanted ENJJPT because Wichita Falls is a better place to live than the alternatives. The town itself kind of sucks, but it's been nice having Dallas and OKC within reach every weekend.

I've enjoyed the international element as well. The studs are cool and it's good to get another perspective on flying from the IPs.

No track select may or may not be a good thing. I thought it was cool to fly with the same group of dudes from day one to assignment night (this Friday).

Assignments...God only knows. The last drop was solid, but there's nothing even close to the good ole days of everyone at ENJJPT gets fighters. Nobody here goes to helos. Our class is the first to see C-130s on the dream sheet, so it looks like it could be just about anything coming out of here.
 
I've worked with a lot of international guys and it's always nice to get a different perspective on things. Thanks for the breakdown guys, I'll let you know where I end up.
