Apartment Application Fees - Can you haggle them down?

Yea thats about the same price as most places in Charlotte. We're looking at ones with granite counter tops and stainless appliances and toilets that wipe your butt for you (i wish). That might be the reason we're seeing all these fees tho.

But it really wouldn't make sense for us to get a 2 bedroom because we have hardly any furniture anyway. And the last thing I want to do is spend my paycheck on crap to fill empty space.
Yeah, but apparently you'll spend your paycheck on empty space.

I dunno man, I know having a woman in your life changes the picture and all that, but there's something to be said for renting inexpensively to save up for buying later on.

I agree. My wife and I went cheap for a few years and are now in a house with a pretty good chunk in savings. Its worth it.

Very true. But it's tempting to splurge since my money will go so much further. The main thing is that I don't want to end up in a shady neighborhood where she's home by herself at night.

I haven't dug into it because it doesn't seem to be very iPad friendly but you could check out Charlotte's crime map then do a search on hotpads.com for rentals and see what you come up with comparing the two maps.

Edit: This map might work a little better for you. And try these forums.
