AOPA Visa Card

Does anyone have an AOPA Visa card? I'm interested in applying for the card to take advantage of the 5% FBO credit rebate (at participating FBOs of course). What are ya'lls thoughts? Any personal experience?

Thanks!

I have one and it is awsome, I have saved a lot of money so far renting palnes for my training at my Flight School. Other tahn that it is just a credit card.

I have one. Definitely a good idea, it saved me considerable amounts of money on my PPL. Now that I'm in college, I also use it for books/supplies that I can get at the airport instead of the bookstore.

Got it. Use it. Love it.

Just make sure you pay off the bill at the end of every month, and you'll come out way ahead.

Hey Max...so you work for Chase? Does Chase really have a better offer than this? I couldn't catch if you were being sarcastic or not...sorry!

LOL...dude like 70-80% of the things I say on here are sarcasm. But yea I work for Chase as a credit underwriter. We have literally 1000-1500 different types of credit cards.

But I haven't seen anything like the AOPA card with the Chase brand that is going to give you rewards for flight training. But we have a SWA,Continental and United rewards card. I think that this card (AOPA) is backed by MBNA now Bank of America.

Thats awesome that Skymates participates with the program. I might have to get me one of those.

For those of you that have the card:

1) According to the site, I didn't see anywhere that stated you had to be an AOPA member. Do you have to be an AOPA member to get the card?

2) Are there any fees that you have to pay?

3) From what i understand, if you charge $200 and you pay that $200 off before the end of the month, you don't pay any APR. Is this right?

4) Standard APR is 9.9. Is this the lowest you can get?

Thanks!

I applied for it thru AOPA's site, with a special phone #. This was back in 2000, so I'm not sure :).

No fees.

Just like any credit card, if you pay your balance off before the end of the billing cycle, no interest is charged.

I've had the MBNA Card since late 2000, and used it quite a bit for flight training, however keep in mind you can save a maximum of $250 I believe per year. Also, when I first got the card, you had to circle your purchases on your statements and then mail them in - now you can asked to be credited for the purchases online.

I haven't used my MBNA card in almost 1.5 years, but still keep it. My APR is, I believe, 9.9 as well.
