AOPA Legal as an ALPA Pilot?

I’ve had the AOPA legal plan for several years, starting when I was flying corporate and continuing on when I was at SkyWest (because no union).

Now that I’m with an ALPA carrier and off probation, is there any reason to continue with the AOPA legal plan? I don’t fly GA and don’t plan to anytime soon. Thanks!

As someone who deals with grievances and disciplinary issues at my airline I would say no as long as all of your flying is done within the ALPA carrier. Anytime you’d be in the unfortunate situation of needing a lawyer, the ALPA one is going to be better suited to defend you vs the AOPA one. If you did any outside flying then maybe the AOPA stuff would be worth keeping. My .02 cents.

If you belong to a type club, they often have a list of attorneys that are as good or better than the AOPA referrals. They are either members themselves or come highly recommended by those who are.

Seriously, though. If you're thinking of commiting the crime of the century, faking your own death, and buying a secret volcano island base, stay well away from AOP- (naming calls), because it WILL find you. And it is relentless, remoseless, inevitable.

On second thought you might want to read about entering class bravo airspace and the newest new C172 from you're prepper bunker in the Candian Rockies..
