Wondering if there is anything out there to work in Central America, Ive got about 1500 hours, asel amel ifr. I know that there is probably a little work in the costa rican "regionals" but I am looking for something maybe a little less american.

I'm currently based in Panama, and can honestly tell you that there isn't much. Most of the companies down here are looking for someone local. They don't really like giving jobs away to more qualified foreign folk. Example....Copa Airlines (they don't pay much, but fly sweet aircraft) will put a Panamanian pilot with under 400hrs in the right seat of a 737NG, but hardly look at any foreigner with 1000+ unless they have a type rating. It has been done before...but rare.

yeah, I would really like to find something in Nica, but I really didnt see anything down there in the way of GA or charter. I applied to nature air a couple of days ago and am interested to see if I get a response, thier website had nothing about employment.

Does anyone know the mins to work for TACA Airlines since I am from El Salvador have about 1200 and have a collage degree just wondering if that would help

It's not CFI work, but FWIW there's some fairly recent info on COPA on www.pilotjobsnetwork.com in the Latin America section. Not sure I understand this website as it appears anyone can post info about the companies rather than having it come from one source.

FWIW? thanks for the link, but...

Oops...the fine print'll get get ya every time. :banghead:

At least you didn't pay for the worthless info. :D

totally. that seems like kind of the way it goes down there, like anywhere else I guess. Last year I tried to contact the chief pilot for Nature air out of Costa Rica (208's and twin caravans, I think) but never got a good email for him or a reply back from the info email. Probably have to go back down there to get my actual foot in the door.

How do you find these airlines like Nature Air? I looked at their website but they don't even have a jobs available section. How do you know when they are hiring?? Thanks.

I really don't know what to tell you, I was down there an saw that they existed, but other than that I really don't know of any good way to look at perspective employers unless you see it with your own eyes. I can tell you that I saw very little flying going on period in most of Guatemala and Nicaragua, there might be more happening on the Caribbean side...

good luck in your search, it is definitely worth the trip to check it out if you are interested in those places, it changed my life.

Thank you for your reply. I would love to go down there, I'm in the process of trying to save some money to go to Costa Rica. I would be quite happy living there. Well good luck to you.
