I am listening to some woman on the radio right now saying that this was "terrifying".....at least this wasnt general aviation.

WASHINGTON -- Four planes flying through restricted Washington airspace Tuesday sparked a flurry of phone calls to authorities.

Some people that News4 spoke with said the planes, which looked like civilian aircraft being escorted by military jets, brought back thoughts of Sept. 11, 2001.
The incident happened shortly after noon and Public Affairs Specialist Lorenzo Parnell of the National Guard said the four military aircraft were on a photography mission taking photos of the National Guard's fighter jets for recruiting purposes.
Parnell said the flyover included a C-40, a C-38 and two F-16s.
A statement released Tuesday by the Air National Guard said the four planes made five passes over the National Mall area.

The statement went on to say, "The flights in the vicinity of the downtown area were unrelated to the unit's continuing mission to defend the skies of the National Capital Region and were coordinated with all the appropriate agencies. ...The location of the photographs was designated to highlight ties to our local community as well as our important missing defending our nation's capital."
But, the sight of the planes didn't upset everyone who saw them. One tourist who witnessed the flyover on the mall, a boy visiting from out of town, thought the flyover was "cool."
