Anyone wear a helmet for GA?

Any bubble canopy has that potential for sure.

The aerobatic community has had some gnarly big bird strikes lately and luckily not through the canopy. But look at the damage this Turkey Vulture did to the composite tail of an Extra 330LX... Taking that through the glass would be fatal...View attachment 65426View attachment 65427

Absolutely. Having a helmet won’t guarantee surviving something like this, but it sure helps with the odds. Everything from getting knocked out to a snapped neck to being blinded, from a large bird strike, are all hazards. Along with other helo ops that in themselves have high accident potential and risk, a helmet just might make a difference.

Not trying to be a • here, but those guys aren’t “FedEx.”

Feeder = aircraft owned (in most cases) by FedEx, but employed by contractor.
I assumed everyone here knew that. Don't know which hub they were operating out of so I couldn't name the contractor.
 
Yes, I do, I also work with a company that sells Helmets and other safety gear for aviation. Been wearing a helmet while flying aerobatics for years and I am a big proponent of such. I have had lots of friends have serious injuries that would have been prevented with a helmet. Lots of backcountry, skydive, AG etc. buddies use helmetsView attachment 65424.

I’m sifting through my options now looking for one.. thinking about a Gallet but pricing one out made me look at the open time boards first

Yep LIFT. The guys there are great and I really like the helmeta. I have used the MSA Gallet 050, and have owned a Bonehead pilotX, CFhelmets HGU 55, and have owned several LIFT helmets. I liked the LIFT helmet so much I started partnering with them. It’s not the right helmet for everyone but it’s a damn fine helmet and has been the most comfortable, breathable and lightest helmet that actually offers protection.

MSA Galet is a fine helmet, the HGU-55/P is a more bump helmet and not a crash helmet….designed to be lightweight more than have crashworthiness. Gentex 56/P is good too, depending on the insert padding system you have.

In the early '90s when I was working line service at KBUR one of our tenants was an aviation accident attorney named Ned Good. Every time he would fly his Cheyenne (I'd love to say it was a 400 but I'm not sure) he would always request a GPU and a couple of line guys, he'd arrive dressed as if he was getting into a military airplane, flight suit, gloves, helmet. I don't remember ever seeing him fly with a passenger. I guess he was just practicing what he preached and only used the airplane as a business convenience.
 
I remember years ago when I was breaking in a new engine on a 172 I put a motorcycle helmet in the back figuring I'd have time to put it on if the engine quit. Think that would do more harm than good?

Cessna 172 makes emergency landing on highway hitting and killing motorcycle rider. Still looking for pilot.

They say fedex on the side. That’s all that matters. We know it’s a feeder, but it’s still fedex.
