Anyone use C-172 Simulators for extra practice ?

I am not reffering to the games on a PC but
real life Simulators that you rent usage on.

I was thinking of doing this to gain some pracice
in certain areas that bother me rather then doing
it all in the air with my CFI.

Any thoughts would be great!

Thanks..

PCATD type simulators are really only good for insturment work. They do not simulate takeoffs, landings, or stalls very realistically. The sims that that do simulate those tasks realistically cost more to rent than the average 172.

If I wanted to go to a local flight school and rent a C172 flghtsim for an hour, how much do you think it would be? Would the instructor teach me how to use it? And would it be worth going on the simulator or the real aircraft in terms of money?

it usually costs anywhere from $15-50 plus the cost of an instructor. Again, not really worth it unless you're working on an instrument rating.

PCATDs are about as good as MSFS, except they have all the switches. The MOTUS sim at my school is full motion, and it does an okay job of takeoffs and landings. Not sure about stalls, but I got the leans REALLY bad in that thing during my instrument training. The cost with an instructor is about the same as a C172SP w/o an instructor. It can also double as a Seneca, so that is a LOT cheaper.

The only thing I've found to be okay at accurately representing real C172 flight dynamics and cockpit systems is one of the Frasca Level 5 sims we have here at ERAU. I avoided them like the plague for instrument work (the ol' Frasca 141s worked just as well for half the cost), but apparently they're starting to use them for VFR training under Part 142. *shudder*
