Anyone stationed at Patrick AFB or Homestead AFB in Florida?

Keeping it short and sweet. I graduate in May and really would like to earn a commission as an officer at one of these two bases. You must think that I am an idiot, but keep reading:

-I am NOT looking to become a pilot. Just figured there might be an officer on here that can help me.
-I am looking to be a reservist or national guardsman for now [hence why I am "able" to choose my base assuming I get selected]

I am looking to get established with a military reserve career and a civilian career in South Florida. I am from Iowa and want to get my feet settled with a housing location and some income before I make the full transition to active duty.

Basically, I am looking for a connection that can hook me up with the proper recruiters on base because they ARE NOT being helpful since I am not prior-enlisted.

Any help is greatly appreciated. I know I am probably not explaining things very well. If you are stationed at either AFB, please respond.

-Tyler

Well, maybe the problem is that is not how the USAF works. You don't just join up and tell them where you want to be stationed.

If you want to join a Guard or Reserve unit, then that's a process completely outside the normal USAF enlistment channels.

And, most importantly...the military is not there to be your crutch when you move to a different state and want some stability.

I'm not joining to abuse the system. I said I wanted to become active duty eventually. I will be 4th generation military, 3rd generation officer and am looking to serve my country. I want to be in it for the long haul.

I've been trying for 8 months with little help from any recruiters. They keep pushing me away because I am not prior enlisted and all they supposedly need from OTS are chaplains and doctors - both of which I am not. I want to be at Patrick for the Space & Missle Program. I understand how the OTS commissioning process works for both Reserve, Guard, and USAF. It is highly competitive but I feel as if my package is also competitive.

I was hoping to find someone on here that is from Patrick/Homestead so I could begin making a connection or two and get some questions answered. Perhaps I came off in an inappropriate manner. Apologies if I offended anyone.

Thanks for your response.

Got it, I misunderstood.

You're right that things are mighty slim for OTS applicants right now. Have you checked over at airforceots.com for additional help on the process?

Wow, I never knew about that site. I will definitely look into it.

The AF Reserve web site was updated today. All new job postings are listed at each of the bases. I was suprised to see such a decline in available jobs since the last updates. [Not really that surpising now that I think of it and how the recession is effecting people's job searches]

There were only two non pilot/navigator/doctor/chaplain officer positions open according to the web site right now. One is for an Air Battle Manager and a Logistics officer at Travis AFB.

What would you say are required for AFOQT scores in order to be competitive for a pilot/navigator slot? I know it varies and it is even MORE competitive then other officer positions.

On my first AFOQT attempt I got an 82 on both pilot/nav score sections. I would imagine without previous flight training and pilots licenses that applicants would probably need to score in the upper 90's to even have a shot? Only reason I ask is because Homestead's only officer slot right now is for a fighter pilot. :(

Unless they are having a new board already (which I doubt), I wouldn't count on that. They just held a board late last year and picked a primary and alternate.

Re: Anyone stationed at Patrick AFB or Homestead AFB in Flor

I was just wondering since the new officer job postings list Fighter Pilot as an available officer position:

I wish they listed the actual job posting on the web site so I could find out who and when my package needs to be submitted by. The ANG seems to have little problem listing openings - there just happens to be fewer of them.
