Anyone know of a good flight school around Philly?

She's in south philly. Preferably no more than 45 mins but I am stressing the importance of a good school and instructor over location.
 
Does PNE still have a flight school?

I am only personally aware of schools at ILG and Southern Chester County.
 
If your friend can make it to PNE or TTN, I'm sure she'd find some good schools there, including ATP

Hortman closed down either end of 2015 or in 2016, can't remember as I spent most of my time in PNE deployed elsewhere.

A new company came in though and bought a large portion of the fleet and opened shop, haven't heard anything good or bad about the, though and I can't even remember the name of the place.
 
It's been 12 or 13 years since I've done any flying out there, but you might check out these guys over at Flying W: http://freeflight-aviation.com. I took some lessons with them when I was a youngin when they were Kenmarson Aero Club out of VAY. Pretty good people back then. Not sure how they are now.
 
At TTN, there's ATP and Infinity Flight. Both are "career-oriented" with Infinity partnering with a local county college offering an associates and reduced minimums. I'm sure they also offer typical self-paced 61 training as well.

I highly recommend Big Sky Aviation out of MIV, especially if you are self-pay and self-paced.

There is Legacy Aviation out of PNE but I know nothing about them, other than the fact that they reopened about a year or so ago.

Well - they have a Cessna 140 and a 170 so why shes flying a Cherokee beats me. :)

I just saw it on the wall there while taking the FIA. No affiliation.
