Anyone flown over something/seen something they feel they shouldn't have?

The other day, flying from Daytona Beach to Valdosta, my route took me over this private airpark just south of Jacksonville, Reynolds Airpark (FL60). Quite a few people out on the ramp as we went over didn't look too happy to see us go over, which I could understand, because it appear to have some sort of soviet helicopter and a few of these planes that appear to be a motorglider type design, with long slender wings. Painted black, definitely set up for what appears to be intelligence operations.

Anybody strayed into something/saw something that you probably weren't supposed to see?

I saw a nudist community once back in my CFI days....not sure I was "supposed" to see it or not.

Before anybody thinks it was a good thing...I had to bleach my eyes for the next 4 days because of what I saw.

Had a B-2 cross my flight path (roughly same altitude) the other day... no he wasnt on TCAS, no ATC didnt advise us...

Not sure if he was covert or not... but we had one of those "That isnt a... it is!" moments

If it was in the NAS, he'd be squawking.

There are Mi-8's that fly around the Destin area, doubt they are hush-hush.....I saw them flying right down the beach front and center. If you were somewhere you weren't supposed to be (like REALLY not supposed to be....as in a place in the Nellis range complex) you would know :)

Eh, I've seen 3 of them in formation. You got used to it living 10 miles from the base they are at.

But back to the helicopter I saw. Was 100% sure it was soviet. Wish I had my camera handy, I'm 90% sure it was a Hind.

Back in the 80's DLZ (Delaware OH) used to have a drive in theater close to the airport that would show adult films. You wouldn't believe how much traffic was in the pattern at night!

If I did, or had ever, I probably wouldn't talk about it on a public forum, if you catch my drift. There's a lot of weird stuff up in the sky and going on at secluded little airports around the country, everybody's gotta make a living.

Pre-Desert Storm the Army had some Soviet helicopters that they... "acquired". Some of the acquisitions were classified as were the existence of the aircraft. They would be quickly pushed in and out of a remote Test Activity hanger. If you asked you were told the MI-24 was a modified S-76. After Desert Storm the Army made a big deal about getting ahold of some Iraqi helicopters and the MI-24 was suddenly painted in Iraqi colors.
I've also told the story of seeing weird looking civilian aircraft with strange antennas taxi up to an FBO. A bunch of military dudes trying not to look like military dudes get out- you know, short haircuts, bug out bags, sunglasses, polo shirts, khakis and boots. You ask about the airplane and instead of coming up with something like "We do aerial surveys for oil companies" they respond "We can't talk about it." Gets you curious. Let's check the N number. Oh what a shocker. It's owned by a CIA shell company.

The ONE time i saw a b2 ATC pointed it out 20 miles away, and reminded me every couple of miles to make sure i would see him. passed like 1nm/1000ft above me. quite a sight.

The Army flies an old Soviet helicopter out at Biggs Army Airfield, and has since at least the mid 80s. They also used to fly the Polish version of the Antonov AN-2, but I haven't seen that one in a while.

How low we're you to see how unhappy they were? Lol

I saw some suspicious activity out in Rainbow Valley SW of the Estrellas. An abandoned dirt strip we always called "Point X-ray" (two intersecting strips) was a reference point in the practice area. Flying over it one day and saw a 206 or 210 parked at the end of one of the strips. This was pretty unusual so I decided to cut the engine on the student and get a closer look in the process. As we started down I noticed a small black helo on the dirt approaching and landed next to the plane. Watched a couple of guys going back and forth between the two for awhile and I decided to cancel the "emergency decent" and "get out of range." Once they were done, the helo took off and headed one direction on the dirt and the plane took off and headed another direction low level. Now I'd just be speculating but....
