Anyone else turn down a PEPC for a local interview?

i think things are really moving for me, and i'm very glad i didn't go the PEPC way...

Norcal Tracon local interview 10-23-08
TOL 10-31-08
Medical and Drug Test 11-12-08
MMPI 11-18-08
e-QIP completed

how often do they run academies, and you guys think its possible to get one come the new year?
 
Hard to tell.....it sounds like people are still getting offered classes in NOV and DEC, but who knows how long they have been waiting....
 
I haven't logged in in a while... all I can say is if anyone is tossing about whether the extra $200 flight to go to a PEPC is worth it, DO IT!!!

That process at home took forever (no one does INK fingerprinting anymore!!!), and was such a hassle trying to coordinate, and no one calls youi back, so you have to call everywhere 2-3 times to schedule anything... ugh. Should have listened to my gut- I'd probably be out of here by now.

I wish I had done PEPC route so much.

Anyway, my paperwork has been in for about a month/ 6 weeks now, and I'm just sitting around waiting. I'll check in my my HR rep at some point. I was so excited, but now the waiting has been so long I actually forget I'm doing anything at all, and get surprised when people ask me about my ATC progress. :) "ATC? Oh yeah! Um, yeeeeaaahhh... nothing."
 
So I gave my "HR" rep a call or whoever, just grabbed the first HR name I could find in my paperwork. She tells me they don't have my medical and I can't be put on the list until they have it. The medical I took over a MONTH ago! Thanks for telling me that I haven't been even on the list for that long with lost paperwork...

Near as I can tell its lost somewhere in the Chicago Regional office. Left a message there but I guess I'll be calling back daily until someone finds it. Is it possible for any step of my hiring process to go right?

Seems liek the medical portion gets lost often. Did htey actually say it was lost? I'm sure they'll find yours eventually. But I hope my process goes well. So far so good, maybe that's not bad. . .but I don't think anyone has had the process go right.

Mine went fine. Just remember that all the medical is done at the regional office, not by OKC. In fact your HR rep never sees any of it. Once your drug test, physical AND MMPI2 (that last one takes the longest btw) are done AND the regional AME has ok'd it all, then the regional medical office will email your clearance to another office at OKC. The sole occupant of that office will then input your clearance into their database (this can take days). And finally, after all that, your HR rep will be able to see that you're cleared! Then they put you on the list they send to DC every Friday and you soon get a school date.
 
I got a couple emails from my HR rep today (after I emailed to check my status):

His first email:

Andy,
I do have all of your clearances in. Now I'm just waiting on the air traffic organization to assign you a class date. Once I get this, I'll be in contact with you to determine if the date is good for you. If so, then I'll be drafting and extending you a firm job offer letter.

I have heard rumors the classes are full for the next year... is that true? Do you have any vague/estimated idea as to when I might get to go?


And his reply:


Just remember that rumors are just that...rumors. We're filling classes everyday of the week. For the terminal side of the house, the process has changes now so that we, the HR specialists, are no longer assigning the class dates based upon when we get an applicant fully cleared, rather the air traffic organization is assigning class dates to better balance facility needs.


This doesn't bode well for me, since I think my facility is fully staffed, but good to know, nonetheless.

Well I thought over a month would have been plenty of time for the AME to clear me. I know the MMPI2 takes longer, but I can't beleive the medical would take that long, especially since I was already on file for my previous flight medicals.
 
Update- got the call today letting me know everything has cleared. I took the MMPI 3 1/2 weeks ago, and got the TOL roughly 5 weeks ago.

I was n/a for the call, so I expect to find out the official class date tomorrow, but just thought i'd let yall "non-pepc'ers" know...

How do you know you're getting a class date so quickly? It sounds like a lot of people on here have been cleared and are just waiting around to be assigned a class date...? I didn't think the two were synonymous.

(I'm not antagonizing- I'm just curious if you have heard/ were told something that we haven't heard...)

I've been cleared for a week. No class date. You won't get one until at least next week because they don't send names to DC until Friday.

Hmmm... the voicemail said ". . . call me so we can schedule your class date" but maybe that just means sending my name off so i can wait some more? i'm confused... i'll try and update again if I talk to her tomorrow.



EDIT-- went back and listened to voicemail, she said "Just got your clearances in and I'm calling to set up a class date with you..."

so yeah, i got no idea... if that's what y'all have gotten, then i wont hold my breath, but i was all pumped up for some info there... I'll update

I don't think it is. But I don't actually know. When I toured after my interview they had only 1 student who was checking out on their last position. I should call and ask.

I almost feel guilty posting this now, but here's the update... by email--

"As of today, there are 3 dates that we have class slots available. Please let me know which date you prefer. January 20, 2009, February 10, 2009 and February 23, 2009. Let me know as soon as possible which date you prefer."

Thpppffft. I just emailed my rep to see if he's got a date for me :) I'm not getting my hopes up.
