One day was at an unctrolled field with ceilings low and vis even lower....i couldnt get reception on my cell to get flight service on teh phone...so i took off into imc without a code.....thought i could climb up to about a 1000 and call up atc(i broke out at 1500 on the approach in) but i was wrong. i immediately turned back towards the airport but windshear and crosswinds prevented me from getting down...had to fly two patterns before i could get on teh ground.....needless to sayi will NEVER take off without a clearance from atc, even if it means i have to walk 3 miles to a payphone.
