Anyone Else Attend the SoCal Pilot / Controller Meeting Yesterday?

I have a question for any SCT controllers or LA Center. I fly a for a 135 and based in VNY, so we go in there all the time and get the Janny5. I have done that arrival upwards of 100 times and have yet to descend via the whole thing. Most of the times we get step downs then cross something at something. What is the point of the arrival if we hardly ever get it? I know the one time I don't double check the box to make sure all the altitudes are in there will be the day I get it.

Anyway, we just usually laugh during it because we know we won't get any of those altitudes during the descent.

Can’t speak for the JANNY but if you ever come into VNY/BUR from the north on the IVINS or ROKKR you get the descend via except 110 because there’s so much happening over FIM there’s just no way. Props for BUR/VNY go in from the west at 9000, departures going over RZS come out at 10, there’s just no way to descend via all the way down.

I would imagine it’s similar on that side. Just too many profiles and different traffic streams to have you descending via the full arrival.

I find. between FIM and VNY at 12,500' is a great place for some air to air shots. From Biz Jets to Heavys, there is usually a butt load of traffic there.

For sure, FIM is a hornets nest of traffic. All the BUR/VNY/SMO/CMA/OXR/NTD traffic wants to be there right around 10k haha. Then higher up you have all the LAX/SNA/LGB/SBA’s trying to be FIM at 240, it can be a real mess. Probably A great place to watch the show though haha

Every time I've come into lax from oceanic and they are landing to the east, Beaver has dropped us down to some stupidly low altitude (1500 I think) 30 miles out. I asked why once and they said that way they coils hand us off to tower instead of having to coordinate with Socal.

Hah, that is like the opposite problem of what we had at Miramar, coming back from the same Whiskey areas. Would be held pretty consistently at 16k until within maybe 10-15 miles of the field, and then you would have to do the space shuttle descent to hit the initial as you rounded the corner to line up with RWY 24. Not a big deal for the flight lead, but sucks as -3 or -4....."haaaaaaaannnnngggg on buddy!"
