I have never used those particular jackets, but they look like a good jacket.
From everything I have heard the life jackets are less effective that PFDs. However the jacket is more practical for wearing in an aircraft cockpit.

I have used them for commercial fishing before. It was nice and warm. Fortunately I've not had to use them outside of the boat. If it was me I wouldn't hesitate in using one. They also make a vest version that works well when its warmer out.
