Anybody enjoy being an airline pilot?

Clear as mud?

umm, clear as the FAR....hmm, I got another question...once when you get your desired location and move there can you stay there for as long as you want or you have to enter another bid to keep it?
I'm just trying to figure out if its possible at all to have some decent living at one place without moving all the time.

I do have to admit that my category in JFK is super under-manned so I get called on a lot of days off for inverse assignments.

It's kind of weird thinking, "man, they're offering me a three-day TXL trip for twice the pay.... nah, my wife would KILL me!" :)

You keep it. Now, if there is a vacancy and someone senior to you from another base comes in, you'll go down on the seniority list, but you won't get bumped out of the base. The only way that would happen is if they chose to downsize/close the base/eliminate equipment, which would trigget a "displacement bid" that would let you bid for what your seniority would hold as far as the other bases go. Here's my example.

I'm currently an FO in MEM, which was my #1 choice in training. Guys senior to me have come down from DTW and MSP, so I stayed in base, but didn't move up in seniority. When guys senior to me move to DTW, MSP or upgrade, then my seniority in base goes up. Your seniority in your base is almost more important than your seniority in the company. I don't bid with FOs in DTW for the lines in MEM. I bid with the FOs here. So it doesn't matter if someone is senior or junior to me in DTW.

Now, when I upgrade to CA, my base choices are in this order MEM, ATL (if DAL flying is in ATL), DTW and MSP, in that order. Odds are I won't have the seniority to hold MEM since it's a senior base. I've got a good shot at DTW, and MSP is my last choice. Once I have the seniority to hold MEM on a vacancy, I will.
