Any suggestions on how to keep cool this summer?

I'm wraping up my PPL this week. That means I'll be starting my time building phase of my training at FSA (like two flights a day). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stay cool in the 90+ degree heat here in south FLA? Usually my instructor holds the door open right up until TO. Solo, it's like driving a VW with no AC and the windows rolled up. I've even resorted to sticking my checklist out the pilot window juts to grab some fresh air.

You must be in a piper. I tried all kind of things when I was instructing in those things. I used a piece of cardboard out the access windo one time. It worked well for every bit of a minute before it succumbed to the relative wind.:) Best thing you can do is climb higher for cooler air. Just know that it will take time to get to those higher altitudes.

It does not get any better in the bigger pipers btw.

Having never been in a Piper.........how much fun is it to secure the door when flying solo? It reminds me of the STUUUPID Taco Bell we used to have at school. You could not go thru the drive thru solo, you had to pay and receive from the passengers side window!:panic:

Who are you to talk? Your going to be sitting pretty with your frosted spike hair listening to the hum of the APU keeping you cool.

;)

Ahh...it all makes sense now. You can send me no less than 8 text messages that I'm a ####y this morning because you're not in class :)

Not really related to staying cool, but drink LOTS of water around flying. You'll have to figure out the timing of it to get it right, but it is very important to stay hydrated up there.

Some places have for about $6 or $7, a little vent that is stuck out of the tiny window. It collects air from outside and blasts it in. I would suggest that. It says not to be used while in flight but I used it in Orlando in the summer and man it was a life saver and I never had issues with it while flying.

Sporty's is selling an ice chest with a fan connected to it for something like $500. Seems like a ripoff to me, but if you got the money to burn...

That's cool man, I've got my hair on my balls from flying the Chieftain than you do on your back!

Man people have gotta think we hate each other...

The hair down there is from shooting NDB approaches to mins in Maine in the dead of winter with a 40 knot crosswind. I should own stock in the company that makes Nair.

Yeah people must think that. John and I really do love each other (not in a sexual way though) ;)

Do you know the name or where I could find one? That sounds like exactly what I need.

Here ya go - if you have $495 to piss away on an ice chest with a fan hooked up to it, then Sporty's has this little number...

I suggest a beer bath after each and every flight.
