Any other way to an Airline Job?

I'll tell you what, you get my the rest of my IR, Com, and ME for $10/hr for the plane (a new, good, high quality plane), and $10/hr for the instructor (a used, good quality, not high instructor), and I'll fly down there and stay as long as humanly possible. :D

Oh, no -that's a whole lot more expensive!! ;)

This deal only applies for Lloyd's Special "Beat Feet to The Right Seat" training program!!!

I'm with blee on this one (good list by the way!)
With the possible exception of pipline patrol, there's a good argument that CFIing is not only the most popular, but perhaps the best way as well. Under 1000 hours or so, pickin's are slim for jobs.
If you can find a highly coveted charter job, that's probably best of all. But those are pretty hard to find with less than 1000 hours, and if you've got 1000 hours, you're off to the regionals anyway.

OK OK everyone has to make a living but instruction's too important to be done by 'time servers'.

How's life down under? I was born outside Penrith. Only stayed there 11 months though as my father was air force and we came back to the states.

Life is very different here. Looking at the Qantas website (our version of the legacy):

Hours
500 hours in command of fixed wing aircraft (excluding ICUS), or

250 hours in command of fixed wing aircraft (of which up to 100 hours may be ICUS) and 1000 hours First Officer time on turbine RPT operations, or

150 hours in command of fixed wing aircraft (excluding ICUS) and 1500 hours First Officer time on turbine RPT operations, or

250 hours in command of fixed wing aircraft (of which up to 100 hours may be ICUS) and 500 hours in command of rotary wing aircraft.

*For those wondering, ICUS is "In Command under Supervision, which I suppose is logging PIC and dual received)

Those minimums are very low (I'm not sure what competitive is, however). To build up that time I suppose would be much easier than building up the kind of time we must build up simply to go to a much smaller aircraft and much worse paying position at a regional. I myself had 2000 TT and 1500 dual given before I went into an RJ (some do it with less though).

I'm not sure what the aviation career is like in Australia, but here a CFI is one of the lowest rings of the 'career'. While the eventual goal is to build time, it is hard to make a career on <$15,000 USD per year.

I've wondered if I could go to Qantas someday. I see you must have an australian license, do you know if you can convert the US one easily? I'm a dual citizen and it seems the aviation market in australia is a bit better than the US right now.

I was being serious though lol how often are your trips? And which plane do you usually take? Thanks Lloyd

LOL . . . nobody seems to want to take me up on the offer! I'm being dead serious! I have Trips to Atlanta, about 6 trips to Memphis, a couple trips to Hilton Head . . . lots of things on the schedule!

It's only $10 per hour, folks!!!:rawk:

I have a friend who banner towed in Ocean City, MD durring summer months and flew sky divers the rest of the time and dropped out of college sophmore year. This was in 1994, he is now a FO on a 757 for US Air. The only unpaid training he got was to pay for his original private license and renting planes from the local regional airport. I guess there are other way besides military. I should have gone the military route after college.

Hmm, I thought US Air furloughed back 18 years? That's what one of their captains told me anyway. If not, that's good news for those guys, I thought it was worse than it really is!

He did move around a bit but is still with US. I recall him doing cargo for a short time.

USAir still had people on furough in 1994 (1991-1999) then they laid off everyone hired after approx 1989.

Are you sure he's still there?

Lloyd, can I just go up one day for the fun of it? :)

Ah-Ha!!! Somebody hit the nail on the head! How does a quick PAX drop-off in Atlanta on the morning of the 30th sound?? I'll double check and make sure there aren't going to be like 5 PAX or anything . . . :buck:

For the rest of you guys - sorry if I misled you - but it was a joke. Would you guys really let somebody that's ALREADY BEING PAID TO FLY GOOD MONEY in a single-pilot aircraft, charge you for the opportunity to do the W&B, loading and radio work that he's already getting paid for?

Your such a kidder Lloyd seriously lol j/k but I wanna pay for me to just sit there and do nothing and log dual...:sarcasm:

Oh yeah saw the thing in freight, so are you thinking about moving on?
