Any Kit Builders/Fliers?

When it comes to tie down versus hangar, you need to look around and out from where you live. For instance, here in KC, at OJC and IXD, the waiting list for a hangar is years long and a hangar is around $250/month. A tie down runs around $90/month, last time I looked. But, if I was willing to drive around 40 miles from where I live, I was able to find a shade hangar for $88/month, which is a heck of a deal.

I've been drooling a lot over the Kitfox. I wouldn't build one myself because I'm not mechanically inclined, but from what I hear they're a very reliable airframe, and the wings fold so you can tow/store it at home.
Careful with picking a plane based on the ability for the wings to fold. The Remos GX that I fly/instruct in has that capability, but if you're not doing it with at least 2 people, you run the serious risk of breaking something.
