Antibiotic Question

Hi Doctor,

I tried tons of googling and searching, and I couldn't find a clear cut answer. I've been sick for about a week, it really wears on me at night with the coughing but not during the day. My doctor prescribed Cefdinir. When is it ok to start flying again after beginning this anti-biotic prescription? I feel fine during the day, and have been doing normal activities including flying up until receiving this anti-biotic today. Is it just a 48 hour waiting period like the other antibiotics I was able to find a time frame on?

Thanks!

Justin

It is not the antibiotic, it is the reason for taking it that is DQ. If you just have a cough and no ear or sinus symptoms, you should be OK. If you have ear or sinus symptoms, they may incapacitate you once you begin a descent.

I was up at 5,500' on Monday with no problems at all coming down. My sinuses just haven't been clogged up. So is there a time limit on how long I need to be started on the antibiotic before resuming flying, or no? Also do you have any suggestions for the most legal and comprehensive way to find what the rules are for flying with certain prescriptions and which ones are just flat out unapproved?

I have grounded myself until I am on the antibiotics for at least 48 hours.

Thanks for the help! :)

Again, it is not the time on the antibiotics, it is the entire clinical picture of why you were placed on antibiotics.

There is no single site for medications, as stated before it is a combination of the drug and the reason it is being used.
