Another TomCatter!!!!

Mike

Even though you were right about the subject you really came off as a mad-man. I would understand if you were a member of the website for quite some time, but you joined the website and then attacked a member...

Once again you were right, & the fact that the person lied about his background is quite insulting, however, there was no reason to call him to the carpet the way you did.

Had it been on this website, you would have been totally correct to do so.

Sorry Mike, just my opinion on the matter, you are still my
Mo-Fo.

First off, you did not really come off as a friendly type and never really gave anybody a chance to welcome.

2nd things, welcome aboard.....

[quoteAlmost seems like 'Flight Simmers' are an entirely different race despised by alot of people

Those are your words. Now go fly the space shuttle.

Should I feel welcome, coming to a topic with, well, what seems like everyone against 'us', Because we like to spend some of our time flying a virtual airplane, on a computer, Because we don't have the funds, or something else is stopping us doing it in the RW?

I'm not trying to sound angry or anything.

----

I was talking metaphorically, so yes, they are my words, its still the same principle, 'Flight Simmers are not welcome'.

I can't believe just because I and some others spend our time doing it, you think so little of us?

We would all rather fly in reality, But we just simply can't, At least we can still enjoy doing something remotely similar, even if it seems 'real pilots' laugh at us, One would think they would be even more understand.

Maybe 'when' I'm a real pilot, I won't be branded under 'Those Flight Sim Nerds' title.

This reminds me of the same situation I encountered a couple summers back. I was playing this shooting game online and met a bunch of people (online) that played it. One of them claimed he was Special Forces from Australia but lives in the US and randomly goes away on "missions" every now and then for a week at a time, he would even slip and act like he was in Jr. High. When I heard this I laughed so hard and told everyone how fake that story was and everyone got all mad at me for it. He tried to prove he really was by showing pictures online, something I could pull up from a yahoo search as well. Some people are just so gulible and can't think for themselves, guess all those little kids wanted to believe they knew someone that was in SF or somethin'. Made me upset that some kid wanted to impersonate a real hero that deserves respect, just to give himself a fake image. Guess these kinds of people just don't have much self respect and need to give themselves a fake idenity.

dolbinau,

I don't think the issue is simmers vs real pilots. I for one am a commercial certified pilot working on my CFI, and am also a simmer. As are many people on this forum. We don't try to hide it. We do find it amusing when people spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on their flight sim hobby that could be used on real flying. But until this thread I've actually seen very few negetive remarks about simmers vs real pilots, so I don't think that is the real issue we should be looking at.

The issue here is that the poster in question was claiming to be an F-16 pilot and he was not. Why did he do that some may ask? Probably becasue he thought it would make him seem cool, maybe get him laid or something. The problem is that he has not earned the right to call himself a fighter pilot. He has not paid his dues. He is trying to experience the respect a military pilot deserves, without having to go through the millions and millions of miles of red tape that come with such respect.

I can totally understand MikeD's frustration. He has paid his dues. He's been through the training. He's spent the time away from home. He's allowed himself to be uprooted from his normal life so we can go about ours. He's put his life on the line. He does deserve the respect. Not only was he denied that respect, he was accused himself of being a fraud and banned twice form your site. Impersonating military is a very serious offense. If I'm not mistaken it is a felony. If someone suspects another person of illegal activity it is wrong to just sit back and let it happen. Mike was not about to do that especially since he had every right to be insulted. Although MikeD may have gone a little over the line, I think your mods should take his claims a little more seriously. If he is right such activity should not be tolerated and your mods need to recognize that and step in. Furtermore everyone there who wants to call themselves an American ownes him an apology, and should thank him for serving his country.

Thanks Mike!

dolbinau,

There was a handful of ppl giving you the impression that we hate simmers, but don't let their ideas (most of which I believe to have been sarcastic IMO) speak for the rest of the ~2964 members.

Ok, thanks [mostly] everyone

. (To those making the remarks; It seems you think its funny , Just to let you know, its very hurtful)

Well yes, it does frustrate me to see people posing as this or that, Not so much the ones that are so stupid and its obvious, but the ones where everyone posts, 'WOW, That is so awesome'. etc...'You are so great'.

We seem to pick up alot at fs2004, probably because of all the 'wannabes' (probably like myself), Who want to seem cool infront of everyone, and its less-likely someone would spot them out.

We have had MD-80 Captains that write like a 12 year old and Fly an aircraft Jetsgo didn't (They had MD-83's if I can remember, not sure, It may have been the other way around).

Personally, I don't have a problem with simmers. I'm a recovering adict myself. The ones I DO have a problem with are the people that learn everything from flying FS, then they try to tell those of us that have the actual ratings and experience we're wrong. Just because Micro$oft says "As Real As It Gets" doesn't make it true.

As far as people pretending to be what they aren't, the online world is FULL of them. I think Mike got bent out of shape because this guy was more or less crapping on the things Mike has gone through. It's tough to even get selected for Air Force flight training, much less make it through. To have someone come up and say "Yeah, I fly F-16s" when they obviously don't makes a mockery of everything Mike himself as been through.

True. I bought FS2004 and an add on for a 747-200. I thought it would be a great way to actually flip switches on the FE panel and get a feel for the cockpit. Then I realized that systems were not responding like they would on the real airplane. THEN I read the disclaimer about things not being that realistic. D'oh!

Next to Flyguy's post, this is about the most accurate portrayl of my feelings. I just don't appreciate those that claim to have done the same things as people we have currently serving, or worse, those that have given the ultimate sacrifice. It's a mockery, it's dishonest, it's dishonorable, and it's plain sickening. It's no different than those that wear medals they never earned, or those that claim to be Navy Seals or Special Ops, when they never were. For someone that's never been through any of "real world" of the military, claims of service as such are a slap in the face of those that have honorably served in their capacity.

And for the record, I have nothing against flight simmers. They're just another niche of hobby, no different than those that build model planes, for example. You have dork simmers, just as you can have dork pilots, or dorks in any other capacity.

Let's get this straight....a person lies about him/herself....gets his card pulled and still doesn't fess up....gets his balls handed to him in a honorable way(with facts) to show he's lying.....then cries about it and better yet, has supporters basically implying it's OK to lie about this country and it's officers/military.......Oh heck nawwww.

Which was why I was incredulous, thus causing me to become the way mpenguin/Mike described. Which doesn't justify my approach, looking back, but just so people can understand why I was in incredible disbelief. To the mods credit over there, he was dumped in the middle of a situation where he didn't know what was going on with one side or the other, so I can appreciate his situation and his neutral stance. No problem with that.

But for Mike/mpenguin, I see what you're saying. I certainly bombed the target, but I could've taken an easier route to the target to begin with. I'll take the hit on that.

And on top of all that, they call MikeD out as a fake. . . . .

shocked.gif
NO WAY!

point me to these smucks....better yet, MikeD -> maybe you should put your mug in uniform on as your avatar there?! hahaha

Okay...I confess, I've used the "I'm a pilot" when I was a young buck to get some "action" while picking up 'chicks'. It just sounded so much cooler than "I'm a mechanic"...never did understand why it didn't work
laugh.gif
Anyway, I can appreciate MikeD's reasoning for targeting this young fella and his determination for calling this fella out.

This thread is totally foolish. As are those threads on FS2004 forums. Posers! To MikeD... after spending many hours last night drinking with my Viper driver buddy from SPI, I can definitely understand your feelings about "outing" posers. I know there are some websites dedicated to "outing" poser SEALs for the frauds they are.

Ah what do I know. I just drink beer and stare at the wall.

Oh come on Kristie, even MikeD posted a pic no one would believe him. He definately doesn't look the part or your model Air Force officer.!
grin.gif
But that works for MikeD so he can keep a low profile for his future black ops career.
