_Merlin-
I think it is a knee-jerk "Ah-HAH" borne of the doubters that ATP has been the company it has been (and still is) for so long.
How can double-D own the planes, fly 4,000 hours a month fleet wide, crank out pilots like he has and still own an ethically straight operation? Simple. He's done it for TWENTY YEARS like that, and it works. Ole' Kozy and the rest of the think tank out there are very much forward looking/forward thinking, and they're as plastic as the industry mandates to meet its changing demands. You hit the nail on the head- there really is no reason to bellyache, and the guarantee is very carefully placed.
Would I drop that kinda cash on the new program? Not in a billion years. I paid the early '02 price for the ACPP, instructed, got some real experience in the real world afterward, and I enjoy flying for the airline I work for. Since then, they increased the price and modified the program(s) and are rolling out a new one. Does that make ATP another ATA? Absolutely not. You know what kind of people your bosses are. That hasn't changed, the mission of the company hasn't changed, but the industry and the segment of the population that are looking for another alternative to break into it changes daily. Hats off to them for having the resources and brains to make a go of it.
I'll quit ranting. I have to finish packing to go back to Philly tomorrow morning... for what it's worth, I'll make my Sallie Mae payment for the month between tomorrow evening and Sunday afternoon around 1400.
