Another new program at ATP

First off, welcome to Jetcareers. BillH isnt a hater. I think he just speaks his mind. It might not be what other people want to hear, but it is his opinion. And about the phrase nothing nice to say, well it wouldnt be much a discussion board, if we only posted on threads we agreed with, now would it?

And if my memory serves me right, I think he attended ATP. So he isnt just spouting out so called hatred. he went there, flew there, got the Tshirt. His experience might not have been as great as others, but he has every right to tell his side of the story.

I went to ATP. I think ATP is a great school, but it definitely has its faults. Its not all sunshine and rainbows, like some paint it to be.

Tshirt...wtf??? I went to ATP over the summer and never got a stinking tshirt, I want a refund!

The DA40's really aren't that bad. I agree that it is sometimes hard to tell where the brakes start. Students tend to hold the brakes while taxing without even knowing they are doing it. The pull adjustment on the rudder pedals sucks, but the new DA40XLS have electric rudder pedal adjustments. One question- Does the DA40's that ATP fly still have the autopilot functioning?
No, the autopilots were taken out like all ATP aircraft (except a couple of odd ball 172s).

Yes I went to ATP, loved it all the way up until CFI standardization. More than anything, it was the people I was with at SUA that made me love it. I also think ATP has the absolute best way of teaching instrument as well. The time building required to get to 85tt, all instrument cross countries, is simply brilliant.
Hater? Blee nailed it on the head. I try to be as objective as possible. I guess it is in my nature to lean towards the negatives.
I agree, all diamonds look like flying sperm, either that or some fish from the Cretaceous period.
Oh yes, I also hate the free castering nose wheel. Yes it is simple, yes it reduces weight, but it sucks. Hard on the brakes as well.
You know, I think Diamond should copy what the Liberty XL2 did with the brakes, make them finger operated. Fix the crappy toe brakes and you'd never care about the nose wheel.

Do they have the G1000 "Flying Sperm" up north too?
500/4 is a heck of a deal, and I am looking to get a G1000 course done.
Sure, the Civil Air Patrol puts me in a G1000 182 for 50/hour and the instructor is free - but who wants to dress like a warrior?

I'd rather instruct, get paid to fly. Why went an airplane to go somewhere when the student is willing to pay for it?

Is ATP going to allow people to rent the airplanes after they have completed the G1000 course?

I doubt it, ATP doesn't let anyone "rent" their airplanes. They may let people buy more time after the 4 hours is up, but they would never let Joe Schmoe rent one of their planes and take it on a weekend vacation.

In regards to spending money for flight time. Sorry, I guess I am lucky to get paid to fly in these times.

Ohhh, I see. I have not flown a G1000 before. How do you propose for me to get paid flying one?
I suppose the 4 hours would be training... right?
:cwm27:

Where I instructed in Miami, .5 hour checkout flight in the g1000 that the school paid for. Then I was able to get 30 hours in it until the owner got mad with one of the students.
I really learned it when I flew single pilot ifr to Keywest. In hindsight, I should of learned it better before doing that... :)
If you are a computer nerd like me, the G1000 is very easy to learn. I was doing Vnav with it, listening to XM radio, etc. Pretty sweet while it lasted.
Anyhow you can download or buy for very little money G1000 trainers. I have one somewhere for a Colombia now Cessna 400...

Then whats the point in doing this course. Most flight schools that would allow you to rent the airplanes have a pretty extensive G1000 checkout that you would still have to fly anyways. Not to mention most of the stuff that can get you in trouble with the G1000 has to do with it's autopilot. Other then that it is a 530 with a few extra features.
