Another new program at ATP

Apparently the diamonds that are at the JAX location that haven't been used in months are now going to the Atlanta (LZU) location. It's also confirmed on their website. They are going to be used for g1000 training, IPC's, and a few other things. They are offering 4 hour package deals for only 500 bucks. I don't think that is a bad rate for a DA40. It works out to be 125 an hour with a cfi, where as most other places charge at least 140 an hour to rent a DA40 and thats without a CFI. What do y'all think?

Sounds like a good deal. ATP could make a lot of money doing this sort of thing, they dont have the regular per hour expense on CFIs since they're salaried and they get paid either way.

Yeah it sounds pretty good, I may consider it when I'm gone with the career program just for kicks.

Well I guess they had no takers on anyone wanting to lease them. I like the center stick, the view and of course the G1000. Other than that, the airplane is crap. Those gawd awful rudder pedals, I could not feel the toe brakes. A little narrow too for bigger pilots, and god forbid you flip the damn thing over and you have to crawl to the backseat to pop open the emergency hatch before you burn to death! Yeh, what a great airplane. Oh yeh, having to remove the wings for inspection is also pretty crappy.

Four hours for $500. . .not too bad at all.

Pretty good deal actually. So long as you don't have to sign up for any other marketing creation.

I would pony up $500 for the G1000 training. Cheaper than the training at the local FBO. They want 5 hours in the plane with a CFI ($135 an hour plus $35 an hour for the CFI) + another $125 for the G1000 course to rent a G1000 172. Might have to put this on my birthday wishes from my wife.

Im very new to JetCareers, but this Bill guy is the biggest HATER ive ever seen on a forum of any type after reading through the ATP posts from the past. Have you ever heard the phrase, if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it at all? Youre in dire need of a hug bro.

I fly the DA20, and cant wait to upgrade to the 40 for my instrument.

Well you probably don't have much exposure to other airplanes yet, so you don't realize how it is supposed to be. And Eclipse, I had fun flying the DA40, it certainly has positive aspects to it. However I challenge you to disagree with me on the negatives. The rudder pedals suck, the toe breaks are very hard to feel, the escape procedure in case of an inverted landing is close to helpless, and well... Just ask any A&P what they think of the diamonds. I have YET to find an A&P who likes diamonds. If you disagree with me on these points, I'd love to hear why.

Whatever happened to all the djets they were supposed to start training with???

Last pieces of info posted about it on Diamond's website:

Program Update
The D-JET is slated for certification and initial aircraft delivery to customers 2Q 2009. The flight testing and certification program is well underway.

Well BillH,
I disagree on your take of the DA40 completely. The rudder pedals dont "suck" if you adjust them properly. How much time do you have in a diamond? I have 38 hours dual received, and over 100 PIC in two different models. I love it. I have NEVER had a serious problem in them that isnt common to all aircraft. It is more complicated than a 172, to be sure, but that is why I like it. It is faster and with a better view of what I am flying over.

I am also baffled by the emergency procdure you are talking about. Though I have never had to get out of one that was upside down, I have crawled to the back seat to see if it would work- it does.

I gotta agree with the above post- maybe you do need a hug. (Uh, that wasnt an offer, by the way. :D)

I am gonna have to agree with BillH that the rudder pedals DO SUCK. Its not the fact that you need to adjust them properly, its the fact you dont have any feel where the rudder stops and toe brake starts. And the fact my shoe gets hung up in the cable, I have to look down to see if I am even on the pedals. Other than that I like flying them, but there is major room for improvement down by my feet.

First off, welcome to Jetcareers. BillH isnt a hater. I think he just speaks his mind. It might not be what other people want to hear, but it is his opinion. And about the phrase nothing nice to say, well it wouldnt be much a discussion board, if we only posted on threads we agreed with, now would it?

And if my memory serves me right, I think he attended ATP. So he isnt just spouting out so called hatred. he went there, flew there, got the Tshirt. His experience might not have been as great as others, but he has every right to tell his side of the story.

I went to ATP. I think ATP is a great school, but it definitely has its faults. Its not all sunshine and rainbows, like some paint it to be.

The DA40's really aren't that bad. I agree that it is sometimes hard to tell where the brakes start. Students tend to hold the brakes while taxing without even knowing they are doing it. The pull adjustment on the rudder pedals sucks, but the new DA40XLS have electric rudder pedal adjustments. One question- Does the DA40's that ATP fly still have the autopilot functioning?
