Another Drunk pilot pulled of the airplane

We installed accelerometers on most of our airplanes where it measures turbulence. It gets uplinked to a magic brain somewhere in the CONUS. Gets processed along with altitude, lat/long/speed, intensitity, aircraft type, mixed together with forecast modeling, then uplinked to the Surface EFB devices around the world graphically, both laterally and vertically Then it's "predictive" because it knows your current flight plan, where you are and where you're going.

Pretty cool stuff.

I'll try to snag a photo of it.
Yeah but we haven't graduated to a print out of the flight route with projected turbulence and signed by the pilots like some shops

Anddddd Captains still ask "can you see what the rides ahead are like?" when they have the app open

More machines that go "ping"! Seems everything that makes flying the ineffably sweet Zen-time I crave is being systematically hacked away. Heck, turbulence is the only time it's really fun! (even from a passenger standpoint, for me at least )

Meh, ALL criminal stuff (including drinking) fall under the same circumstances as an incident/accident in an aircraft. Chastise me if you want, but I've seen and investigated both and the circumstances are identical... Screwing up in an airplane, OK. Screwing up outside of work, not OK. This guy did both obviously, so I will be curious to see what happens next.

Catching it early is obviously better, and publishing the warning signs to attempt to prevent further occurrences is the way to go, but after the fact (especially if it was caught before anyone was put in danger), it seems that we need a better system. Criminal alcohol abuse is re-occurring in several states in particular. NM and AK are two that I can think of.

It's a shame that this guy will face A LOT of issues, but at the same time, the system worked in catching it at this point. Hopefully the system works in this guy's favor after the fact after they get help. If not, I think it's going to keep happening, forever.

One Delta guy asks for a ride report, ATCMemes think we all do.

Darn them for asking about a smooth ride for passenger comfort.

Love that new live turbulence measuring and rebroadcasting app. Nope, ain't sharing it! :)

Well. I did fly to Sierra Leone on Delta and thank goodness it was a star alliance Air France crew because they kept the PAs to the PAX at an absolute minimum.

If I can make one generalization it's that the PAX PAs on Delta flights are out of control. I want to sleep. One announcement re: turbulence is Ok. More than that is cruel. I'm trying to sleep, so is my wife and our 7 month old.

Ha! Sleep! You fool!

I convinced my wife to stay 24 hrs in Paris, instead of 2. Since we landed over an hour late, we probably would have arrived in SL without our luggage.

The ferry ride from the airport to Freetown was brutal. And my wife realized it would have been awful on 30 hours of PAX PAs, etc.

Wife doesn't think I'm so dumb now. After years and years of being airlined around by employers who treated me like garbage, it sure was nice to say "F no I ain't gonna do that!"

I'm a pain in the butt about that too, but it's mostly because conditions can change quickly and I'm not going to fly my aircraft through something that will get me fired when I hit a bunch of hail.
Same. What I am not going to do is ask for ride reports at different altitudes then climb and descend in 2000 feet increments for the next 45 minutes to find that smooth air. I aint got no patience for that.

My grandfather flew a Cessna 195 and built a Hospital in the Sierra Leone jungle. Mattru Jong I think. I got some really neat pre embargo stuff from Africa; including a namoli soapstone carving (which scares me) and elephant chief seats with real ivory tusks, etc. I always wanted to see the place but my grandparents told me it was too dangerous to go there now.

Seems OK so far. Typical scams to rip people off leaving the airport. Haven't been off the hotel property yet but the beach seems really nice.

Lots of expats with kids and friendly locals so far. Met one guy who got malaria on the ferry ride to Freetown. He went home for a couple of weeks. Apparently got it after a big night of drinking and passing out without closing the mozzi net. He has extra surfboards and I bought him a beer.

Things are off to a good start. Maybe I should start a thread?

Nah, it's been one of those weeks where suddenly I'm ground zero for a few thousand people... and "I've got a friend of a friend of a friend who needs..." so I'm a little bitchy! :)

My iPhone was glowing red from "dude, I got your number from my FO do you have any passes to the job fair?"

Want to be a brand Ambassador? The job's not all roses and happiness, is it? :D

I smile and look pretty for the Japanese markets! I don't know where your flipping bags are or why your last minute ticket to Orlando cosfed $600! Ha! :)

Well now you know how a crack dealer feels. The downside I guess is that you can't get all crack dealery on people who deserve it. You have my sympathies.
