Angry Neighbors.

This has been quite the touchy subject in the past 6 months since I've been at the school. Some of the things mentioned in the article are quite real and eye opening. The neighbors are not giving in and my fear is they actually might win and impose landing fees or, though less likely, shut the airport down.

I know airports have been on the decline over the past several years so I suppose that it's not completely out of the realm of possibilities.

There have been community meetings held in which people from the FAA, AOPA, CAE Oxford, Commemorative Air Force Museum, the public, and so forth have attended. Often times it gets pretty heated or so I've been told.

What do you guys think? Falcon Field has an enormous aviation diversity presence given it's size of an airfield.
Are the neighbors going to bark loud enough to shut it down or will the economic impact of shutting it down woo the Mayor and City Council.

With IWA around now, many are questioning the continued need for FFZ. one of the best Italian restaurants, Anzio's Landing on the east side of the field that you could taxi to, recently closed.

Ahhhh I didn't know they closed thanks Mike I was eventually going to eat there just never got around to it.

Relocate-closed or out of business closed? I ate there in 04-05 time frame on a "$100 hamburger" run from PRC.
 
Seems like the city council is at least weighing the pros-vs-the cons regarding the airport. Santa Monica has the city council and the locals trying to close the airport.
 
I like Fuzzy! I went to IWA for my ATP training. I rented airplanes from Arizona Aviation, also did my tail wheel and high performance endorsement through them. Love that field. Sad the Italian place closed. I also remember a BBQ maybe a block or so way that was pretty good.
 
Anzio's is closed-closed. That's too bad. I've been going to FFZ since the very late 1970s, always wanting to see the firefighting B-17s, TBM-3s and DC-4s based there throughout the 1980s.

DVT and FFZ have a tough time with noise, encroachment, and the fact that to the general public, they don't bring a ton of $$ to the community in their eyes. The main people who benefit from the airports are those who operate out of there. With FFZ, the biggest industry there is Boeing Helicopters, but they don't need an entire airfield for their ops. DVTs main ops are some flight training, the Phoenix PD and MCSO air divisions, and some Honeywell flight ops. So it will be interesting to see what happens. CHD and GEU aren't yet in the same boat as FFZ and DVT, but are starting to see some of the same encroachment problems with new housing popping up around, etc.
